While on the topic of gender neutral change, maybe we can stop calling the world around us Mother Nature and start calling it Legal Guardian Nature or something.

And Canada is not the Motherland. It is just land, I'm offended that land is referred to in the female as though they are superior. It is just an expanse of dirt and grass that accommodates crops.
And further, the Military has to stop referring to ships in the female perspective as it is offensive to....someone, I'm sure. I dont know who, but someone!

I don't understand why so many people are against this. The anthem should be reflective of where we are today and should represent all Canadians. Why does changing two words to include the other half of the population get so many people riled up? Why shouldn't the anthem be inclusive to men and women (and people who identify as transsexual, for that matter)?

I dont know, I'm not against it per se, but I also am not for it. I find it silly, unimportant and frankly revisionist.
I think an anthem has to represent a nation's identity over the long term, past and present, if it isnt PC/Gender Neutral, theres nothing wrong with that, it speaks to a history that made mistakes by not giving women equal rights. Dont wash that away like it never happened, acknowledge it. Understand it.
Not "well that sucks, lets pretend that never happened."
If you change things every time society changes you'll never remember where you started from and how hard you had to fight to get to where we are now.

Well subs should be referred to as he anyways because they're long, tubular in shape made out of hardened metal and filled with sea men.

I would bet there will be an audible "THY SONS" in the Saddledome for quite some time (along the same lines as "SEE" and "RED"). If the Sensitive Sams (no gender implied) who demanded this change had their feelings hurt before, how will they feel when it's no longer just "historical sexism" happening, but real, live, in-your-face non-PC sexism from the people standing around them?
Location: In a land without pants, or war, or want. But mostly we care about the pants.
Exp:
The anthem has been changed before, and it'll change again. Some of you sound like my grampa railing on about the old flag and how the Maple Leaf was an affront to our British heritage. How many of you know what the old flag looked like, or what it was called, or when it changed?
For that matter, how many of you know the words in the anthem that were changed in the 80s, which, as I recall, was another case of much ado about nothing. Rabble rabble indeed.

We've only had one flag that almost anyone would point to and say that's Canada's flag.
The current Canadian flag has only been in use since 1965. For two-thirds of the time that Canada has been an independent nation, we used either the Union Jack or the Red Ensign.
The Star Spangled Banner has had plenty of changes over the years (including the name of the song), but once they settled on it, they haven't changed much. Except the way the song is sung.
Check out this jaunty little number. Fastforward (do we still say that?) to 5:30 for the real action. This is how they used to sing it.
I would be much happier if we just changed the lyrics of South Park's "America ##### yeah!" to "Canada ##### yeah" and make that our anthem. So much power in that song.
Then for sad occasions we could do the slow version of the song:

We weren't an independent nation until 1982 and i can't remember seeing the other two flags.
