I feel like we had a mole and they were found and drowned. It's eerily silent for how much work is getting done at head office.
Seems that moles get axed pretty hard these days. Ariel Helwani got kicked out and subsequently banned from UFC events for leaking the return of Brock Lesnar.

This video got posted on Reddit. Gulutzan talking about defensive systems at a coaching symposium. Even talks about our D system a bit. Pretty interesting stuff!

Stay Golden - I know you're upset that Hartley was let go "too early" in your view, but I think you need to do some research on why before you continue to rally around Hartley.
I understand from a source on the team that Hartley was let go primarily because the team (especially the young core) had really soured on him, and that they had stopped playing for him. They made that supremely evident to Brad at during the exit interviews and I understand that BT made his decision primarily based on that... My source went so far as to say that Monahan and Johhny had made it known that their contract terms would be swayed by whether or not Hartley was still the coach.
So while Brad did saddle him with a goal-tending anchor, what sunk him was that the room had very, very much soured on him.
I think you can read that when you hear BT say "Bob took the team as far as he could" and a few of his other lines. Bob lost the room.
So StayGolden... Let go of your anger and show some reason in your arguments. Loyalty to Bob is not a reason to dislike GG as a HC option.

I think we're in for some sort of surprise. I'm not so sure that it will be with head coaching vacancy (sure appears to be Gulutzan) but maybe with the assistant/associate role?

another hint dropped by Tre tonight about Bob pushing the players as far as he could, and this past year getting "pushback". that sounds like a polite term for complaints not just during exit interviews, but as the season progressed.

13:00, make the zone as big as it can be. Flames were brutal for this, they'd slowly get closer and closer together until there was never any room for a pass.

When Brent Krahn, as a baby-faced 21-year-old, broke into pro hockey in Las Vegas, Glen Gulutzan was his coach.
When Krahn, as a baby-faced 29-year-old, retired from pro hockey in Austin, Texas, Gulutzan was his coach.
“Yeah, I know,” Krahn, cackling, said Wednesday afternoon. “He brought me up — and he buried me.”
Now there’s a good chance the gents could once again share an area code.
Krahn, who sells service rigs for Precision Drilling, lives in Calgary.
And Gulutzan?
Well, the social-media drums are madly pounding out news of his hiring as the Calgary Flames’ head coach.
Even if official word has yet to be announced.
What is known — the goalie’s strong feelings toward Gulutzan.
“Not one person I know has spoken one bad word about Glen Gulutzan, the person or the coach,” says Krahn. “He’s awesome. A phenomenal guy. A standup guy. A players’ coach. The line of communication was always open, no matter how crappy you were playing or how well you were playing.
“He was there to listen to you, to talk to you. Very open-minded. But he did command the room. He had the respect of the players — always had the pulse of his guys — but he was always in charge.
“He really put his time in."
Quote:
Gulutzan, then 32, was eager to make his own impression.
Even if his youthful appearance — “Like he’s about 15 years old,” jokes Krahn — did turn that into a challenge.
“His tactic was not to try to intimidate you,” Krahn says. “A guy like Darryl Sutter, a guy like Brian Burke, their reputations precede them. Anywhere they go, you know they’re in the room. Glen’s approach was a little different.
“It didn’t take him long to find his groove. You could tell he wasn’t uncomfortable being the head coach. He wasn’t uncomfortable being direct. He wasn’t anybody’s buddy. He was the coach.
Quote:
The following season, 2009-10, netminder and coach shifted to Austin, base of the Dallas Stars’ AHL affiliate.
There, Krahn got more insight into Gulutzan — after being yanked one night. The coach sought out Warren Peters, captain of the team and chum of Krahn.
“Gully said, ‘Hey, how is Krahner after he gets pulled? Is he strong enough to come back? Or do I need to give him some games to cool down?’ ” says Krahn. “It shows you that he values his team’s perspective.”
Quote:
Prior to Gulutzan’s hiring in Texas, Stars’ then-general manager Les Jackson had picked his brain.
“And I said the exact same thing I’m saying to you right now — the guy just wants to get better,” says Krahn. “I’ve never had a coach like him, to be honest with you. His demeanour mixed with what he brings to the coaching arena … he has some old-school in him, but not the fear of god that some guys put in you. He would be patient, even if he was pissed at you, like, ‘What can I do to make you better?’ ”

^ Sounds exactly like the guy Treliving has been looking for. Hard worker who has paid his dues, won at certain levels and worked his way up. He failed in Dallas but after continuous learning and striving to be better he could be a perfect fit here with the young core.
Hire Gulutzan and a strong associate (possibly even Reirden) and I think our coaching ranks will be set-up perfectly.
I think he'd be a good hire, always came across as smart in interviews he did with media here, and I think there's a reason why he was kept on with the organization when they switched head coaches
plus I think guys getting their 2nd HC jobs are a very good chance to do well, just seems to likely to learn from mistakes, not just in systems but how to deal with guys

If that's true then you can't be too impressed at our youngsters' sense of entitlement. And their decision to hold that over Brad's head when it came to contract negotiations. I hope there was a really good reason for them to quit on him like that.
I got the impression he was very different behind closed doors as opposed to in front of the cameras or a mic, but it makes you curious.
Maybe something to do with the kids missing out on that practice? Perhaps Bob said/did something that irked the group? I heard about him not giving them any breaks close to christmas, but also that's why you have the christmas holiday..
Pretty hard to decipher being on the outside.
If all's true, then sounds like a player's coach that has a vast knowledge of systems and the intricacies of the game is the direction they're going for.
Yeah I am also a little surprised to hear the young players may have so quickly turned on the coach. I guess that happens in pro sports now and if BT asked the question in end of year interviews then you have to hope for an honest answer.
Before that turns into a bad game of telephone, Sean Monahan was on the Fan960 the day after Hartley was let go and vehemently denied anything like that was the case. He was specifically asked if Hartley had lost to room or if he and others had started to tune him out and Monahan went out of his way to say that wasn't the case at all.

Yeah I don't buy the tuning out thing, I think all these rumours is just Flames brass taking a page out of the Bruins playbook and trying to discredit Hartley. There really is no need to play these games and say these things, the intelligent hockey fan knows that Hartley failed to implement a winning and sustainable system of play and possession and that is reason enough for his dismissal.
I have no qualms about how he treated the players. Really the only players who should have anything negative to say about Hartley are Hiller and Raymond.

Truth is none of us really know how he treated the players. Or what they thought of him. If Flames brass is leaking these fake stories and attributing them to Gaidreau and Monahan that might be a bigger problem.
Fact is Hartley got fired. BT fired him.
