General Fanager has put together a cool tool to create your own Las Vegas roster. http://www.generalfanager.com/teams/expansion
Interesting to see how complicated this actually could be for the team. It will certainly change between now and then but if the draft was tomorrow, it's be an interesting team.

discussing this in the other thread...It takes a long time because you have to go through every team and protect players and it doesn't take off UFA's and the rosters are going to change a lot by then but it's still fun... Vegas ends up with a decent team in the end.

Interesting that Gillies does not count as exempt status as per this site.

A bunch of teams are going to expose some really good talent. In some cases too many for LV to take them all. NYI, ANA, CLB all have a bunch of good players that look to be available barring trades.

It was actually a little hard picking spots 6/7 forwards to protect for Calgary, as there are only 5/6 guys on there that I really care about keeping. I wish we could transfer 1 or 2 spots over to D.

Yeah, they are likely going to lose a Dman in this, especially if they keep both Vatanen and Lindholm, but luckily for them they are a freaking defenseman factory and probably won't even feel it.

Assuming they keep all of them:

P - Bieksa
P - Lindholm (22)
P - Fowler (24)

Vatanen (25)
Despres (24)
Stoner
Manson (24)
Theodore (20) Exempt from expansion draft

8 NHL defensemen, and the cupboard is hardly bare:

Brandon Montour (22) - 57 points as a rookie in the AHL
Jacob Larsson (19) - 1st rounder from last year
Marcus Pettersson (20) - 2nd rounder from 2014, big mobile Dman

I want to laugh at them, but I can't. They are too good at developing players, especially defensemen.

I know I don't get why Gillies is not protected. I thought he has not played enough games cause of the injury this year

The Flames seem to think Gillies will be exempt, we will have to wait and see. Maybe this'll be Trelvings O'Reilly moment and everyone will freak out.

Won't there be two teams? Or has this always been a one horse race?
I find that based off of this year, there will be a lot of quality goalies and D men out there to pick up. Forwards have a faster drop off it seems on most teams.

I get the comparison but different situations.

Feaster and co missed the small print in an existing document. Treliving has already said we will have to wait and see in a document as of yet not seen.

Now if the rules were released and he traded for a goaltender and then realised he had to expose Gillies it would be different.

Having said all that ... those that take the time to go through the capfriendly calculator ... will Gillies be at risk of being taken anyway?

I dont think so. There's a lot of goalies out there.

Looks to me like the biggest asset that we could lose at the moment would be Jokipakka or one of Gillies/Ortio. Wouldn't like to lose any of those guys, but nothing earth-shatteringly tragic.

On my attempt, the D talent is pretty decent. I was worried about losing Kevin, but in this iteration, I chose Bouma, as the F depth is pathetic. I do think LV will load up on D and goalies to the extent they can, and then try and trade back the excess guys.
Also, is it confirmed that LV must make the cap floor? And is that 70% of the max? I think there will be plenty of big contracts exposed, but I didn't pick many. I assume LV would be active in the UFA market as well.

Edit: Totally agree this is pointless, given the potential trade movement, but 99.9% of internet activity is pointless (excluding porn). Some of the notable teams/player issues:
Nashville will lose someone decent. As I don't think this thing allows 4/4/1, Ekholm goes.
Similarly, Winnipeg would lose Trouba, as they have 3 NMCs on D.
Anaheim, as noted, could lose Vatanan
 Minny loses Brodin.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Well the forwards are a little woof... but dang are they ever gonna have a good young blueline and goaltending. I had Calgary losing Stajan... the young D and goaltending also means inexpensive D & goaltending that meant that I had to use the forwards to up the cap (including Stajan)
