There is also that Avocado Grill place near the Ikea in Deerfoot Meadows.
They make a pretty mean pork burrito.

Are you allowed to say 'mexican'? Isn't that racial profiling? You are so insensitive.

My favourite Mexican restaurant is El Sombrero. I especially like their combo for two that has a bit of everything. Although I do not claim to be an expert on the matter, it seems fairly authentic. (I've only been to Mexico once).
I do like Boca Loca, but it is more of an ethnic corner store with a couple of tables for eating than a restaurant. I love the burritos and key lime pie!
Salt & Pepper is pretty good. I also don't mind Juan's, which is downtown. I am not a fan of Julio's Barrio at all, but I haven't been to the one here in Calgary.
James.

I agree, juans is about as good as it gets......he has his whole family there, his mom does most of the cooking, his daughters, nieces, nephews all work there. Never had a bad meal, and the margaritas.....well, dont drive if you plan to sample them!!

I was just going to mention his resturant, I know him and his family, and his resturant is amazing, the food is so good! They are on 8th ave now, right by the new Flames Sports and Entertainment Center, right outside the Scotia Center, down a flight of stairs. If you want mexican food, I suggest you take a visit, you will be satisfied.

Boca Loca is... Okay. They frequently run out of stuff, which is very frustrating. Their food selection is very limited, and their food can be bland and served inappropriately cold.
I guess I just got spoiled from eating Mexican food in LA. If you ever get the chance to go down there, go to King Taco. Their food is absolutely fantastic. It's true Mexican, and they have some crazy menu items if you're so inclined to really go down the rabbit hole.

Heard good things about Juan's from Latino friends.
There's another joint on Macleod Trail around Henninger Toyota that's also supposed to be good. Name escapes me. Maybe more Salvadoran than Mexican but good all the same.

That stuff is beyond gross. It's right up there with brain tacos and chilli flavoured candy.
Mexican Style Shrimp cocktails and straight up tacos with red and green sauce are where it's at.
Any of the resteraunts mentioned have the red and green sauce?

Tripe is an acquired taste and definitely not for the squeamish.
Some folks don't seem to mind it though. I had it in a Cambodian Soup once and still lived.
I'd be up for a bowl of menudo. They don't call me Ol' Iron Gut for nothing.

I still havent found a good Mexican Restaurant in Calgary. I've been spoiled in the past I guess.
I do gotto El Sombrero fairly regularily.
Julios barrios is a complete joke! I went there once, and nothing even remotely authentic about it. Not to sound racist or anything, because I understand that many people working at these restaurants are just Hispanic, and not actually Mexican, but when you get an Australian server at a Mexican restaurant, I think that says something. (Holy run-on sentence Batman! )
Alright, a little joke my friend told me (A Mexican-American) "You know why there is no good Mexican restaurants in Canada? . . . We can't be running across two borders ya know."

The taste isn't what bothered me. It was the consistency. Same with brains. Like chewing on mashed potatoes in a sausage skin.

Or like chewing on a sponge?
The odd time I head up to Superstore I buy that stuff. Chop it up and dry it in my food dehydrator to make cheap snacks for the dog. He goes crazy over 'em.
I'm always open-minded enough to try anything. This menudo talk has me interested.
