Ok I just watched or at least attempted watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and I have never been so bored in my life. I actually got it as I read that MMF had liked the movie, and I have somewhat similar tastes to movies as him, but I have never been so bored in my life. I couldn't help but be reminded of Punch Drunk Love staring Adam Sandler. I was waiting for something to happen, but nothing did happen. I was just left sitting there until 10 minutes r there abouts after the frodo guy in lord of the rings came along at which time I fell asleep, I woke up later realizing I had slept through the entire movie, something I had never done before.
Was this movies supposed to be funny? thought provoking? was it trying to be boring.
I wish I just watched Dawn of the Dead again....

Matrix (the first one). Not sure if it's critically acclaimed, but it seems a lot of people liked it. I fell asleep (at the theatre, no less...which I never do).
I haven't seen Titanic, but I'm sure it sucked.
F/911 - I'm definately not a Bush supporter, first off. Second, what a crappy movie. Moore could have done SUCH a better job of it. Seemed like the movie was just thrown together without much effort.

Titanic was probably the biggest piece of garbage ever. Twister was another one that I can't figure out why people raved about it so much.
And I hate to say it, but the Lord of the Rings movies just didn't do it for me either. I don't think they sucked, but I was bored through most of them.

You aren't the first person who I have recommended that movie to and hated it. I guess its just one of those movies *shurgs* I dunno, I enjoyed it. I was actually skeptical going into it because Jim Carrey annoys me, but I still liked it. As of right now (pre Oscar season hype) it is one of the favourite movies of 2004. I don't know if it was trying to be thought provoking at all though, it didn't really make me think or anything. I just thought it was a neat movie thats all. It was well shot and I thought Carrey did a great job. He is a fine actor when he isn't trying to be "on" all the time.
Dawn of the Dead is sitting on a chair in my living room right now, I have no idea how it got there but I might watch it soon before whoever brought it over comes to get it.
Critically acclaimed movies that suck? This is an easy one, Titanic.

It was a movie about two people at a crossroad in their lives. I don't know if anything was supposed to "happen" If you mean Bruce Willis didn't show up and save the day then yes, nothing happened.

Was it critically acclaimed? I thought so...and it was horrible. UGH.
I thought Lost in Translation was brilliant.

I liked Lost in Translation too. It's one of those movies you need to be in the mood to watch though.

The Life of David Gale, I remember someone being really excited when they were telling me about this. Since I think Kevin Spacey is brilliant I rented it, and totally disliked it. It had so many plot devices that weren't necessary at all. Spacey did well in the lead role, but it wasn't very good.

Anyone ever seen Gerry by Gus Van Sant?
It basically is just a single camera following around two guys who get lost in the desert. There are alot of shots of them just walking, sometimes for minutes at a time. I didn't like it at all.
But I loved his movie Elephant though, it had the same long shots etc, but the movie was alot better.

Yup, exactly. Same with Magnolia, you definitly have to be in the mood for a movie like that.
I would also like to thank Maxwell for starting a movie thread just as I was about to head to bed. Damn you.

Let's see here, what else. Oh, how about Vanilla Sky? I couldn't stand this movie. I was bored with it rather quickly and zoned out halfway inbetween. I watched it with a group of about 5 other people and they all raved about it, I just didn't get it.

It was a while ago but I remember being bored as hell in The English Patient. I didn't find it interesting at all. And I agree with Titanic as well.

Gus Van Sant is a strange filmmaker indeed. He was also the director that re-made Hitchcock's Psycho shot-by-shot. I mean...why do that?
Ayhoo in terms of movies that were critically acclaimed and beloved Gump was one that I just didn't get. Particularly the part where he started to run. Lame.
BTW I recently watched Enternal Sunshine and thought it was amazing. A very genuine portrayal of the dizzying highs and painful lows of a relationship. And Jim Carey (who I usually can't stand) was very very good.

Any movie that features Tom Cruise getting in a car wreck and falling/jumping off a building is all right by me. The rest of it was so bloody boring though.
Oh another movie is Waking Life, it was like some film director walked out of a philosophy introduction class and based a movie on it.

I thought Van Sant's remake of Psycho was surprisingly good. Probably had to do with the actors he chose, especially Vince Vaughn who was a better Norman Bates than Anthony Perkins IMO.
I loved Forest Gump. I find that movie getting dumped on a lot, not sure I understand why.
I thought Gosford Park blew chunks too. It got nominated for best picture somehow.
Titanic? It was ok...I thought the visuals of the sinking were pretty spectacular but it didn't deserve best picture...especially with Good Will Hunting, As Good As it Gets and The Full Monty nominated. They got robbed.

Off the top of my head: Gosford Park.
The hype around that movie was insane... I was so excited to go see it, convinved I would loved it. And left thoroughly disappointed.
Titanic.. yeah I liked it. The first couple times. But enough is enough (no need to show it on tv anymore. Anyone who has wanted to see it by now, has done so already!)

Booooo! I thought Vanilla Sky was a great movie.
Forrest Gump on the other hand was awful. The sequels (Forrest Hump, Forrest Rump) were way better, although a lot more sexually explicit.

Was that the one that was done in that annoying animation? Blech. If so, that movie was terrible as well.
