Glad it's the Ducks and not the Flames!

Hotbrain is now a medically recognized condition. Carlyle was one of the pioneers of Hotbrain awareness and he should be applauded for his involvement. Shame on you.

I just hope this spells the end of the GD curse the Flames have in Anaheim

Flames never won in Anaheim during the regular season when Carlyle was coach last time.

Yeah, if they manage to end the curse this year it will likely have nothing to do with coaching changes on either side.

This is the best move from a Flames perspective since the Hamilton deal. Flames avoid arguably the worst coach in the league and he gets hired by a divisional opponent? Excellent.

Don't be surprised if the Ducks are pretty good next season. I know the advanced stats kids think he's terrible but his overall coaching record (career .574 PTS% and a Stanley Cup victory) indicates he's nowhere near the worst coach in the NHL.

It's like I said earlier in this thread, according to many CPers last off season DeBoer was the worst hire imaginable and the sharks were doomed. Didn't exactly turn out that way at all.

Say, that thread was a fairly entertaining read in hindsight. I will be very interested to see what happens in SJ this year. Hell, with four coaching changes in the past two years in the Pacific Division there could be a lot of movement in 2016-17.

McKenzie: 'There may have been some lobbying behind the scenes' from core players like Getzlaf, Perry to have Carlyle come back.

Aren't Getzlaf and Perry worried about the Ducks becoming a Corsi also-ran?

The Ducks are very talented. Even a trained monkey or Patrick Roy could coach that team into the playoffs.

The question is whether Carlyle could make a difference when it matters. The consensus seems to be 'no'.

Sounds like an angel:

Quote:
"He’s old school,” former Ducks defenceman Ryan Whitney once told me. “You may see him in the morning, and he’ll walk by and he might not say hi. Rude isn’t the right word, but he’s one of those guys who feels that the more intimidating he is, the less he talks to you, the harder guys play for him.

“He’s going to tell you when you mess up, and he’s probably not going to tell you anything when you did real well. Guys who need that pat on the back? It’s likely not for them.”
Quote:
"He is a tough coach on the ice,” Sbisa said. “Sometimes he says things he might regret the next day, but players do that too.

consensus of fans?

same would have been said with DeBoer and D.Sutter

its a tough league who knows how they do, I don't however see how this is such a big disaster. The last guy who everyone loves for some reason lost how many game 6/7s in a row?

I'll admit I expected a lot more 1 shot in the last 10 minutes when the team was facing elimination style play out of the Sharks this year. Peter DeBoer's best move was not over coaching that team. But he's always had a good first year and than had the team decline in coming seasons.

As for Carlyle, the more things change the more they stay the same. I doubt he'll negatively impact their precious corsi too much. I mean it's not like he's going to insist they give the puck away and than intentionally not try to get it back. For the most part, I think talent far outweigh's coaching input when it comes to possession.
