Bucci Mane @Buccigross
The @NHLFlames need a Head Coach. Almost done. Kevin Dineen is getting a late look. Looks like him, Glen Gulutzan or Todd Reirden for now

So how do we go from three finalists yesterday, one being Carlyle who was hired by another team, to three finalists today? So the three listed yesterday weren't the finalists? I don't think the media really knows what's going on.
I wouldn't even be surprised if the person hired isn't one of those three.

The media doesn't have a clue.
|
Or Carlyle was our guy so we are doing a late interview of someone else?

Media straw grasping. One of them is bound to be right if they throw out all the names.

That just doesn't make any sense given everything Treliving has said about the problems with Hartley and what he wants in a new coach.
I tend to agree with Asphex. The media is in a cone of seclusion about this decision.

The fact that the media has no clue is a huge feather in the cap to Treliving. It's incredibly difficult to keep things under wraps in this day and age.

I am not saying he is wring, just throwing our a possible and realistic alternative.

Hmm, why would they have a new finalist even though Treliving has made up his mind? Unless Carlyle was our guy or simply no one has a clue what's going on.

or there were more than 3 finalists. Again just throwing possible reasons out there assuming there is any truth to Dineen.

Is this where we come to hand wring incessantly? I was worried about Carlyle, but now that he's gone I think he actually was our choice! Even though BT has knocked literally everything out of the park so far I think he'll blow this one badly. I've been hurt before, I'm kind of scared. Hold me.

If anything, I think the Flames had less interest in Carlyle than believed.

After reading a few articles and looking at the coaching history of some of these said finalists. My favourite is Todd Reirden. I like that he has done well with the youngsters in the other organizations he has worked with and it sounds like he really helped out some of the other great defensemen in the league. Which we need, we need better defense overall.
Sounds like he did wonders for the power play as well in Washington, something we were definitely lacking last season.
I think the other candidates sound fine as well but he is my favorite. I think finding that guy that is close to becoming a full time NHL coach is what we need. I think he would get a lot of support here from the management, obviously with a bit of guidance from BT and Burkie.
Anyway, I hope this drama is over soon. It would be good to have him in and ready a few weeks before the draft to talk what he thinks this team needs.

This is so damn similar to the GM hiring two years ago. Worry about old guys, worry about Burke guys, then all of a sudden rumours that the final three for the Calgary job were Benning, Funta and Treliving.
I can remember thinking all are great, good, young SMART hockey men, and a big step for the Flames, but was thinking Benning was the pick of the picks; the one to nab.
Canucks grab him and it almost felt like the rival suddenly had a decade leg up on the Flames.
Was happy to be so very very wrong!
Wonder who the Benning in this list is????

I know he isn't a new hire, like your GM list, but let's hope it is/was Carlyle.
