Calgary takes Matthews and Pullejarvi, both who crack our lineup in the fall.

In what world is Gio + #6 enough for Matthews? Leaf fans would riot.

You may be joking. But unlike some people I think Stajan has the chops to play with those two guys for a few games if needed. But I doubt he's a guy who can do it for a season. I suppose Prybl might make a push - what does that do to the lineup?
And if you have MAF you probably don't have Wideman (plus another decent player unless you've traded a pick(s)).

I actually meant to put Reimer haha. Didn't even notice.
I just want a guy who can win board battles and make the smart easy play on the top line. I think that's all they need, let the other guys make the fancy plays. Stajan fits that bill to me, even has a bit of a mean streak to help protect Gaudreau.
May be too slow to keep up with them on a fast break but that's ok too. Brodie will blow by him, Stajan can go off for a change.

I also kind of like this idea, but agree with GioforPM that Stajan likely just can't keep up, beyond a few games here and there. We really need a better option, if we can find one. IDK what options can be found yet hope Treliving has something up his sleeve,

To Florida: Wideman + 66th overall
To Calgary: Reilly Smith
This trade makes sense for both sides. Florida is lacking depth on defense, and they also are missing a 3rd round pick. They’re very deep on forward and could afford to give away a player that is a RFA next year. If they’ll make a move for Campbell, this isn’t that farfetched.
To Columbus: 6th+ 35th+54th+Backland
To Calgary: 3rd (Jesse Puljujärvi)
Our center depth is better than our RW depth. This is steep to some, but this is what I think it would take to get it done. I’m really high on this kid, and I think we be a key piece for the Flames future plans.
Signings:
Gaudreau - $7,000,000
Monahan - $6,000,000
Nakladal - $2,500,000
Gaudreau/Monahan/Pulujarvi
Shinkaruk/Bennett/R. Smith
Mangiapane/Stajan/Frolik
Ferland/Bouma/Hathaway
Pribyl
Gio/Brodie
Nakladal/Hamilton
Jokipakka/Engelland
Fleury
Ortio
Cap Space: $1,600,000

Isn't Reilly Smith pretty highly regarded in Florida? Maybe Cali can elaborate. But if he is, then that's quite the insulting offer to extend to the Panthers.

No way does Reilly Smith, one of the Panthers' best young forwards, go for that.

Horrible trade for Florida no way they move Smith for Wideman. The Jackets trade doesn't make sense either as they can't really take on the Backlind contract. Also I don't see the Flames including Backlund for the 3rd but if they did there would be salary coming back to Calgary. Lastly how has Nakladal come close to earning $2.5M? He should get half that if he is lucky

1) Babcock is a big fan of Giordano
2) Leafs can unite the Nylanders
you're right. We'd have to throw in more.

I think if Tampa takes a player back it is one on an ELC or just picks (high picks). They have to many raises to hand out this year and next to fork out 3+ million for Colborne.
Also what stops Bishop from walking in a year?

True, Bishop could walk in a year. I would assume they would let the Flames talk to Ben and his agent, before executing the deal.
I just hope we dont bring in MAF!

I am bored so taking a shot at this
Trade:
To Vancouver: Mark Jankowski
To Calgary: Jake Virtanen (RW)
There seems to be a lot of Jake Virtanen hate on Vancouver Hockey forms these days and Weisbrod loved Jankowski in his draft year so the deal is possible.
Draft:
6th OA - Alexander Nylander (LW/RW) - he is the consensus 6th pick by most mock drafts
UFA:
Sign James Reimer (G) to 1-2 year bridge contract until Gillies or McDonald are ready. Also the possiblility of picking up someone better cheap as the expansion draft gets closer.
Sign Jakub Nakladal
Salary dumps/bury in minors/trades for picks:
Bollig, Wideman, Raymond, Stajan, Smid(LTIR)
Lineup:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Nylander
Ferland - Backlund - Frolik
Shinkaruk - Bennett - Virtanen
Bouma - Shore - Colborne
Jooris, (Hathaway/Grant/Poirier/whoever from the farm)
Giordano - Brodie
Hamilton - Jokipakka
Engelland - Nakladal
(one of our young farm guys)
Reimer
Ortio

Hmm I don't think I would like a janko for virtanen trade, but I am quite pro Janko. Want to see what we have with him.
