I don't mind low ball offers from kijiji because I'm ever in a rush to sell anything. If a guy like Silver negotiated that way I'd either totally ignore it or laugh at him if it got to the selling point when he tried to knock another 100 off.

Most people accept the deal, set a time and place to exchange cash, and then back out. That is breach of contract.
That's a huge annoyance for a buyer. I don't want to drive down where you are and risk getting my front fender mangled when I inevitably run over Mr. Tumnus, only to find when I manage to navigate the labyrinth of the backwoods suburb you've chosen to live in (it's just two doors down from the stone table!) that you've backed out of our arrangement.
Just do what you say you're going to do. Don't be a dick. Be considerate of other peoples' time. That includes paying the price you offered, provided that the item is in the condition that the seller said it was in.

Thanked for the multiple CS Lewis' references. Well done Sir.

That's awesome, certainly never heard that before. Lots of stern/defensive sellers out there, but it's funny picturing a guy kicking tires and then turning the aggressiveness back on some guy who doesn't give a **** about your offer.
"I'll offer you a lot less than you want and just shut the hell up if you're not going to accept!!!!!!!".

Ugh. Respond to an ad, 1 hour later get a response saying, yes you can get them, I am around AM and PM. So I respond moments later saying I can get them this morning and need the address. 2 hours later... *crickets*

Them: do you still have item x?
Me: Yes
And then nothing.

I assume those people are also trying to sell the same thing and confirming if they need to price below your listing.
Or not. That's probably too logical.

They've probably found the item they're looking for, especially if your listing is a few days old.

Next time maybe state if you're willing to pay the listed price.
As a seller, I've been replying to the "I'm interested, send me your address" enquires with "The price is a non-negotiable $X as per the ad - you good with that?" For which I get dead silence afterwards, telling me that just want to meet up and person to lowball me. These were simple items where inspection was not required.

Still nothing. I don't think money is an issue, he cut the price in half last night. I made it pretty clear I was ready to come pick them up. I tried calling earlier and just got the machine, so maybe something came up and he had to run. Sounds like an older guy.

this is currently what happens nearly every single time with my postings now. I'm sure many of them are the buyer finding another deal, changing their mind or just sending out feelers, but 95% of them?
I still have suspicions that it's the thing Kijiji does now with emails, masking them and forwarding messages on your behalf. a couple years ago when buyer and seller could see each other's email addresses, the crickets/ghosting after initial contact wasn't so common. maybe one of the major email providers (e.g. gmail) is just sending those masked kijiji addresses straight to the junk bin.

I actually prefer the masking. I was pretty sure someone was harvesting email addresses for profit when full email addresses were given out.

I just said good luck, let me know if you change your mind...2 days later I bought it for my price lol. Wanted to tell her to EAD but it was such a good deal

If I'm looking to buy something that needs to be approved by my wife, I would ask the seller if it is available before talking to my wife. No point in making her mad over something that is no longer available. Or worse, getting her hopes up; and now I have to buy that item at full retail somewhere.

I guess. But in that case, why no follow up after? It seems to happen too often for that scenario to be playing out.
I don't think my response is out to lunch. There isn't really much else to say in response to, "is it still available?".

Success! He had to run out this morning. Good score. $30 for retaining wall bricks worth over $600 retail. Now to unload...

I noticed that one of the default messages (on old kijiji app) when contacting someone with an ad is the line "Hi is the item still available?". I still don't understand why I got so many of those messages without any follow up. But at least I knew why I was always getting the same message.

Grrrr...respond to a post yesterday morning about landscape blocks, just want the measurement to make sure they are the right one. Women responds that her husband will measure them when he gets home. OK, fair enough. Last night? Crickets. So I email this morning and she said he didn't have time, but would do it this morning. That was at 7:30. Now? Still nothing. How long does it take to grab a measuring tape? Better yet, put it in the GD add!
On a better note, yesterday I needed gravel, and didn't want to drive all the way to one of the centres to get some. Checked Kijiji and a guy was giving away a bunch not to far from me. Did 2 trips.

Try the Calgary Facebook Buy Sell group. There's probably also a community buy sell group you can use.
Have to use your real name - buyers and sellers. Keeps the flakes away.
