You can't argue that access to guns is why the crime was so large. He couldn't have walked into the club and stabbed or pushed bullets into that many people. Hate was the recipe but access to guns was the oven.

The families of the 50+ victims are in shock and mourning, and Trump "appreciates the congrats for being right". Christ, what an a-hole.

Assault rifles should be classified, like other deadly weapons Americans are not allowed to own, as weapons of mass destruction. They are simply to powerful and destructive to be in circulation amongst the general public. They need to be bought back and their manufacture banned.

So your solution is to shut down businesses employing thousands and introduce more regulations on an already extremely regulated product?

They are no more powerful than another firearm chambered in the same cartridge and a bullet from a semi auto firearm is just as deadly as a bullet from an automatic. The only difference is that the automatic is much more difficult to control and effectively use.

Full confiscation and buy back. Outright bans on weapons of various types that can bring this level of death and destruction. Half measure regulations won't do. Civilians should only be allowed to own and have access to much less powerful hand guns and hunting rifles and even those should require very, very stringent background checks, purchasing regulations, storage regulations and so forth.

Honestly both the left and the right will come out looking like hypocrites on this incident. The left will claim it's political opportunism to blame this on Islamic extremism, while at the same time using it as another example of why there's need for better gun control, and right will claim the reverse.

Would you support an ban on a select fire AR-15s capable of automatic fire and allow the use of semi-auto rifles by civilians for hunting and sport shooting?

Also, a buyback would probably run about $3,700,000,000

Just watching a press conference in West Hollywood, about this. The guy speaking says they believe the guy arrested was not affiliated with what happened in Orlando, it's just a crazy unrelated coincidence.

Still...buncha crazypants $&@#£%*×$♧¤☆

You mean the extreme regulations that allowed someone on the terrorist watch list to own one?

Oh and yes I would love to see a large unemployment line from gun makers, every gun that's not made to hunt animals should be banned.

Yeah, I suppose

Seems worth it, no?

Have they determined the provenance of the firearm used yet? Until they come out and say it was legally purchased, it can't be determined if the regulations in place work.

So both the firearms mentioned fire a 5.56/.223 cartridge at the same velocity, same magazine capacity and can be fitted with the same accessories.

The difference is that the select fire version is about 30x more expensive and you're buying a tax stamp from the BATFE, having your fingerprints/photo taken, getting a letter from local law enforcement and having an extensive background check done. It's also a lot harder to use effectively.

This is emotionally distressing.

Who cares how it is defined? What a stupid thing to debate. It's a hate crime, terrorism, extremism, et all. All of it. But it's irrelevant because honestly how does the label of the act change the act in any way?

Guns are stupid. The purpose guns serve as recreational tools does not outweigh the danger access to them poses. I'm sorry, I don't really give a #### if you're willing to let 50 people get slaughtered so you can go skeet shooting or bag that trophy Buck. Grow up. Banning guns is obvious to the point where people who argue against it are selfish, idiotic, full of hate, or some combination of the three.

Recently, there has been this feeling that it's easier than ever to be LGBT. That it's "chic" or whatever. Yeah, that's great and it might be easier lately, but you know what? Talk to me when seeing two men kiss doesn't inspire the killing of 50 innocent people at a gay club. Hate crimes against gay people didn't go away just because you threw us a marriage bone.

What a life.

Annnd apparently Florida still has a law that denies gay men the ability to donate blood, and they have a shortage for some of the victims. Just a reminder that state-sponsored homophobia is still alive and well.

Canadian Blood Services does it too, just to a lesser extent, 5 year deferral for gay men after last sexual contact.

As an aside, the ban actually makes a great deal of sense.
