It absolutely has to do with gun control. That's not the only issue obviously but this man used an automatic weapon to kill 50 people.

Are you new to the mass shooting discussions? Gun control debates come up all the time, despite the shooters motive, it is related.

Gun control advocates point to mass shootings as an example of why the states need more gun restrictions.

Their opposition blames them for capitalizing on a tragedy.

Except, when this is the 174th mass shooting this here, when isn't a tragedy?

Yes i understand that islamic fundamentalists hate homosxuality, what i do not understand is this level of response to something you "hate".

I agree that this is a disgusting act of violence, but I'm not sure how all the news agencies are calling this the worst mass shooting in US History.

I guess they don't count the massacres of Native Americans that were still going on in the late 1800s? They categorize these as 'wars', I assume, even though a lot of them were the US Army vs unarmed women and children.

Yeah, there are clearly a number of issues at play here but gun control is obviously one of them.

Does this happen in Europe? Yeah. But not as regularly or easily. Paris was the result of careful planning and coordinated attacks. This guy just rented a truck and drove down from Northern Florida and massacred 50 people. Could've done it on a whim.

A Muslim guy goes into a gay nightclub and kills 50 people, because he was enraged when he say two guys kissing. And that's not about religion?

Terrorism is always preceded by indoctrination that lays the groundwork. It exploits unhappy people and guides them step by step from rage to violence.

This is just so sad.

As a society we do have to do a better job of being intolerant to intolerance.

If he was just a nominal muslim (not religious and really only muslim in the sense that his family was), and just happened to hate them queers, it's a possibility. But the FBI has suggested he had ties to religious extremism, so yeah, seems likely that it was religiously motivated. Guess we'll have to wait and see what law enforcement says.

Respectfully, I think you're so used to arguing with Transplant that you may be missing that he's saying the same thing on this issue.

Change Muslim to Christian and ask yourself the same question. It very well could be but way too early to know if that's the case.

Spoiler!
Why not just speculate as you clearly want to? Closet case is definitely going to be a possibility here.

It's not an either/or scenario.

This incident is a combination of hatred/intolerance AND easy access to weapons capable of inflicting mass casualties.

This shooting is as much a gun control issue as it is intolerance.

They have said they have leanings towards that but can't say definitely yet...whatever that means.

Actually all I was thinking was that the guy looks like a huge d-bag and the sort of person I'd want to dislike even if he hadn't just committed a mass murder. But it seemed a bit trivial to point that out given what he just did.

What a terrible tragedy.

And on top of that, Trump is going to have a field day with this. Fuel the fires for a Muslim ban.

I didn't know you could determine ones d-baginess based off one selfie. But I definitely think being closeted is going to be possible here. I really doubt this guy has been in America his whole life and that's the first time he saw homosexuality in person.
