Default Violence erupts in France during Euro 2016

Embarrassing

Hard to find up to date news on it but apparently its still going. Unconfirmed reports that a fan was pushed in front of a train. One other person is apparently also dead.

Twitter has lots of vids and more up to date news.

I read the thread title as Volcano erupts in France during euro 2016 and I was wondering where the heck the Volcano was and why the hell you were saying it was embarrassing.

/adding no value to discussion.

So now the French authorities not only have to look out for potential terror threats, but also deal with idiot hooligans as well. Pretty ridiculous that this type of stuff is still associated with the game.

It seems like every time England are in a major tournament, their fans are caught up in this nonsense.

Well yes and no. The problem is that this started inside the stadium, in the stadium there are just stewards and they can get outnumbered pretty quickly.

Once it got out into the streets the actual police got a handle on it.

The thing that I have little sympathy for is:

"I got teargassed and hit with a nightstick!!!"

Yes. Because you were participating some kind of street warfare. I cant believe people get themselves involved in these brawls and then whine about the police beating them into submission or gassing them.

I've got a suggestion: Go to the game. Enjoy it. Have a beer or ten. Party. Go home.

And look at that, no one gets hurt!

I thought I heard a boom at the 90th minute but disregarded it as a weird 90 min thing. In the article it mentions Russian fans charging into the england fan section I thought was ballsy. Just crazy.

The announcers said that boom was a flare that people were letting off. I'm shocked, utterly shocked, that the Russian fans broke through the barrier to attack the English supporters. I'm sure this was a one time thing and the world cup in Russia will be safe and without incident.

Sad, but the first thing I thought of when I heard the boom was another terrorist attack. Sounded just like the one a few months back.

In terms of the violence...I love soccer, but two things about it I can't stand about the sport. The diving, and the hooligans.

Otherwise though, looking forward to a great tournament. Let's go Magyars!

As a Croat, the first thing I thought was "please don't let it be us".

Poland and Northen Ireland fans were also attacked by French hooligans in Nice. Lot of finger pointing though.

French security between the two was as effective as the Maginot Line, it seems.

The thing that got me about going to an Arsenal game last month was the riot cops deployed ten blocks in every direction from the stadium after the game.

Soccer fans take their stupidity seriously, it seems.

This really isn't on the English fans at all. Russian Ultras came in huge numbers to pick a fight. The OM Ultras have also been waiting for this to start fights too.
