Just got home to see them lose. What a waste of a pitching job by Sanchez.

This loss isn't on Gibby, it's on the nine losers who went up to bat tonight. You can't have the bases loaded and nobody out and not cash in any runs. They went 0-11 with RISP and Martin got caught in a rundown on third base...simply unacceptable. Anyone who was saying to put Osuna in at the beginning of the 9th is a liar; Sanchez was dealing going into that inning and was under 100 pitches. Feel really bad for Sanchez he pitched a gem.

Home runs are fun and it's amazing when they're hitting them, but when they're not, this offense is completely anemic.
Gibbons/Jacoby need to work on commitment to hitting for the situation. This is a team sport, and hero ball isn't going to get it done every time.

Since when has there been an issue with Osuna? It was the 9th inning. All that was needed was 3 outs.

Totally agree. Once you get to 9 bring in Osuna. I can understand leaving starters in after 7 since the Pen sucks but if you can get to the big dog you have to do it.

In the 8th inning, Sanchez struck out 2, induced a weak grounder to 3rd and was still throwing 95-96 MPH on his fastball. Hindsight is hindsight, but looking at that and remembering how Osuna got blown up in Boston I don't disagree with Gibby at all for leaving Sanchez in. Honestly, I actualy probably would have let Sanchez keep going even after the Kinsler 2B, with the way Sanchez was dealing Osuna was not an upgrade in that situation IMO.
either way, pitching didn't lose the game the bats did. Jays approach to hitting has been terrible all year and is typical Gibby baseball. Let's just wait until we all start hitting home runs at the same time and we'll be fine.

Gibby is the kind of manager that gives pitchers chances to achieve something meaningful. So he was giving Sanchez the chances at a CG SO. Nothing to that point in the game, suggested Sanchez was losing steam.
Easy to say it was the wrong decision 20/20, but I think a lot of managers would have done the same thing.

Gibbons is known for leaving in pitchers far too long, and it costs the Jays all the time though.
Sanchez is essentially a rookie with limited experience going deep into games and hasn't really built up the stamina yet (though he was still firing in the 8th). Sanchez is also on an innings limit so for each extra inning he pitches, that's one less inning September he may be available. When you consider those other variables, I don't think most managers do what Gibbons did (although I would agree some would).
The general rule of thumb is when you get to the 9th inning, you bring in your closer unless the games out of reach (get your guy the complete game) or a no-hitter is still on the table. Osuna should have been in there. He was rested and ready to go and hasn't been struggling this season .
Instead though, Gibbons goes against the grain, costs Sanchez the win from his great performance, and put Osuna in a position to fail which could always hurt the confidence of a 20 year old and confidence is everything with closers.

Comerica park is beautiful. It makes me extremely jealous when I see these grass fields and the downtown skyline peaking over the outfield fences.
I don't really ever see Toronto getting a new stadium. It makes me depressed to think of the Jays in that astroturfed dome for the next 15 years.

Other than the Astro Turf, when the roof is open Rogers Center is a great stadium and experience. Right in the hart of downtown Toronto, perfect location. Surrounded by restaurants and bars, and it has great sight lines.
Would be be great to have an open air stadium on Lake Ontario? Yeah, absolutely. Not really practical though. The reason a dome was chosen in the first place was that the Jays had a really hard time in April an early May getting games in.
They've made some really great improvements at Rogers Center. I think people that haven't been there in a while would be really surprised.
(I just complimented Rogers, I may vomit in my mouth a little).

Sure they have made improvements, I won't argue that. And yes, the location is hard to beat.
But for myself, and I might be unique in this, looking at astroturf is a big deal to me. The green grass, from a pure "baseball experience" perspective, is important to me. I think it's embarrassing to have a professional baseball team playing on fake grass. When I show up at a ball game I want to see the fresh cut grass with the cross crossing patterns.
