Not quite accurate. He said if they're equal it's goalie then defender then forward. They aren't going to pick the less talented player just because he plays a certain position however.

Yes, I just posted that too. My point was he said they will take what they think is the BPA regardless of position. Who that player in their mind is we can only guess.

Anyone think that Burke could be pushing brown over nylander?

Can't say I'd be mad if everyone goes forward before us

For the millionth time, Burke isnt pushing anything. His opinion is just another opinion in a room full of opinions. The scouts will make their case and our GM will make the final decision. His (burkes) black and blue truculence motto wont effect our draft and it hasnt since he's been here if you look at our picks. We havent gone big and mean with every pick. We've gone for skill, speed, hockey sense and character.

P.S. I LOVE Brian Burke

I don't want to think about Burke pushing brown, ever.

Yeah, my teenage mind comes back to me from time to time.

While this is true, the Flames really do need forwards more than defence. I wouldn't be surprised for Treliving to trade up such that the BPA is clearly a forward.

Browns a solid skater. A big center is going to a win a draw against a winger.

Whether he's making the decision or just in the room

He ISNT making the deicison. He's just in the room, like 100 other guys.

To win a draw with a winger he first has to be equal. There is a consensus that he is ranked below several wingers. He wont beat them out just because he is a center. Thats stupid.

People are taking this we're a small team and need to get big thing way too serious. BROWN! GAUTHIER! LUCIC!.

I'm going to laugh my ass off in 5 years when Keller and Jost are the best players from this draft. Not predicting it, but I wouldnt be surprised at all.

Arguably our 3 best pieces are a 5'8 winger, a young center who couldnt do a pull up and an offensive defenceman who's best characteristics are his skating and passing. Gaudreau Bennett Brodie.

Its so frustrating to see people overlook skill and ceiling for someone who's way bigger than anyone else...at 17 - but WAY less skilled with worse stats and holes in their game. Brown dissapeared for parts of the season, doesnt have a hunger for the game, which you would expect a guy who is 6'6 220 and can skate in major junior to be a real force and play physical. If he isnt playing the body in junior, what makes you think he will in the NHL? If the biggest thing about him is his size, and he doesnt use it - whats the point. He only took off when his team got Lemiux and put him on his line.

My point isnt to crap on Brown. Its that theres a reason he is ranked a handful of picks outside where we will be picking.

The ONLY teams that would be smart to take Brown in the top 6 are teams that A) think hes the best center likely available outside Matthews/Dubois and B) Silly teams drafting for organizational need who are hungry for a big center.

Jim Benning, step right up.

I know we wont be drafting for size, position or anything other than who our scouts and management believe will have the best career in the NHL.

You are right, position is a tie breaker. Size is a tie breaker. However Brown is not in a tie with anyone projected to be there at 6.

I'm sticking to my original pick of Nylander. I don't care what anyone tries to do to change my mind, dude has skill and best of all plays RW.

You are the same guy who's just about been on a personal plight to knock, undervalue and under-rate Sean Monahan, calling him a 2nd line centre etc.

You'll have to excuse those of us who take your evaluations with a grain of salt as a result.

No, it's our management's philosophy on team building. From the net out, and then up the middle.

The situation kind of reminds me of 2003. Suter, Cobourne, Phaneuf went 7, 8, 9. Just because a player is closely grouped with other players at his position doesn't mean he shouldn't be picked.

In their mock draft today, USA Today has us taking Tyson Jost at #6.

I'd be open to trading #6 to the Leafs so they can unite the Nylanders.

6 + 35 + Backlund for #1.

People are under rating backlund big time. Unless a team is willing to severly overpay for him, heshould be a main piece of the team going forward.
