Ariel Helwani banned for life from UFC events. I am assuming for breaking the Lesnar news. That sucks, he is an awesome reports who has been following and reporting for a long time.
Wow, that's ridiculous. The UFC needs to realise that the media at large isn't their PR department. Its strange because while they seem to have somethings figured out to generate publicity and get coverage to bring this more and more mainstream, they also do stupid things like this.
Hopefully Helwani gets back into the fold and cooler heads prevail.

Love Helwani, hope he gets credentials back... It think it helps him that the fighters seem to really like and respect him so he'll still get content. Garbage move by the UFC to do that to a media personality for just doing his job

#Much chagrin in the fake world of UFC over the banning of journalist Ariel Helwani and two of his colleagues this weekend after Helwani reported the return of Brock Lesnar to UFC, which, I gather, is something of a scoop in the world of men in tights with cauliflower ears and bad tattoos.
Apparently this angered the UFC, who had the journalists punted from a post-fight event.
No surprise here as it has long been rumoured that Dana White, UFC’s chief scriptwriter and director (who proves you sometimes can judge a book by its cover), paid reporters to cover his events – including those from mainstream outlets – and as a result exercised the type of influence that turned reporters into fart catchers.
It was genius. Get the mainstream media to treat a ludicrous sport with made-up rules and storylines as legitimate and watch the lemmings come running.
But it also reveals why the UFC and MMA will eventually cave in on itself and become even more like WWE – no disrespect meant to the wrestling folks, who at least know their own soul and have a sense of self-deprecation.
Street Pharmacist either lacks self-awareness or is looking for reactions. Posting a link that calls the UFC and mma fake, ludicrous and made-up in this thread seems pretty silly.
Oh no, the baseball guy doesn't like MMA, glad we know that now.

To be fair to Jeff Blair when Dana White goes around and does things like taking away press credentials because somebody breaks a story he asks for criticisms like that one.
Although the "made up rules" line is quite hilarious - every sport has made up rules. It's how the sport gets invented.

Both. My favourite is your reactions

By all means attack the UFC for their handling of it, they deserve it. But attacking the sport is unnecessary by Blair.
That's the problem though. The sport is Dana White's MMA. No one watches anything else. The fights are hand picked, the media and what they say is hand picked. That's closer to wrestling than it is any other major sport.

That's (a) not true about it being the only option and (b) the hand picked fights are what makes it good. As a boxing fan there is nothing worse than seeing two guys avoid each other for years because they can; the UFC makes those fights happen though. It's popular because for fight fans it's a great product.
You have a point attacking this decision and the media handling, but that's not the product itself.

Dana White's MMA? Does anyone watch anything besides Gary Bettman's NHL? The handling of the media is the only thing questionable here, the rest is nonsense.
