I see the concern expressed earlier regarding his skating. He does seem rather slow.

Yeah it's a bit of a worry as NHL skaters are faster than he's used to playing against in junior. It's one of those things in that you never know in that the Oilers could take him at 4 and the Flames take Nylander at 6 and the Flames end up getting the better player as Nylander is a complete package and could be a better pro.

Those highlights are him playing on an injured ankle.
Edit - or not!

I think they're his OHL highlights from the season.

I stand corrected if that's the case, I'm at a water park with my kids and haven't watched it yet.

I have seen Tkachuk probably more than anyone on here. His skating is fine, it is not above average, just average. Sean Monahan is a good comparison for skating.

If Pittsburgh is the new model then average isn't good enough. Skipping the combine testing due to injury is understandable but is a missed opportunity for evaluation vs his peers.
I'm making a bold prediction that he falls to around 9. Based on not much.

Certainly in Monahan's case, I think he'd get to a lot more loose pucks if he were a bit quicker.

So Sean Monahan is not good enough. Seems to be doing fine to me.

Pittsburgh isn't the new model, frankly there is no model. Any style of hockey is still capable of winning a cup. Just look at the past ten champions and how different they are from each other. And no, he ain't dropping to 9. I'll make the bold prediction he doesn't make it past 6.

I'm not complaining but merely noting that a lack of food speed is all he is lacking at an elite level.

Pittsburgh will be the new model if they win, until a team like Anaheim wins which changes the model to big, heavy rosters albeit slower, and then if a team like Calgary wins, the model will again switch to a deep backend with players who can all push the puck up ice quickly...

Much less bold a prediction than my potentially embarrassing signature-worthy one.

The Pittsburgh model will always be 'have two of the three best players in the world'.
This Penguins team has one elite player on each of its top 3 lines, an elite #1D who can play half the game if need be, and goaltending. That's not a complicated recipe for winning.

If Monahan were a better skater, he would be playing for the Lightning.

Patrik Laine is pretty sure of himself.
The 18-year-old compared himself to six-time Rocket Richard Trophy-winner Alex Ovechkin, telling TSN's Gino Reda it will take him five years to be like the Washington Capitals captain.
Nothing wrong with confidence! Lol
