Michael Owen is an insane man

Quote:
“I’m picking Stones to partner Smalling in the opener because he’s brilliant,” he said.

“It really angers me that people have blindly assumed he’s a player prone to mistakes.

“Name me an England centre-back who hasn’t made an error this season? Or any nationality for that matter?
this part would normally be the best

For me he’s the only England player who could walk into Barcelona’s team tomorrow. The only one who right now, could play for the best club side in world football

As you write that Chris Smalling scores the winner against Portugal.

When you're a big time manager its all about working with egos. You dont just 'bench Rooney for FFS.'

You emblazon the bench with a plaque, call it the 'Wayne Rooney Commemorative Bench' and explain to him that it is his duty for the media to see him sitting on it at all possible times. For Queen and Country!

just no Milner

Dele Alli is not a winger

Harry Kane is like 5th choice to take free kicks at Spurs how is he 1st for England, the one time I can remember him scoring it was on a massive deflection, can we put Eriksen in a milner kit and just pretend?

Rooney has to be in midfield

Hodgson is one of those coaches like Van Gaal who likes to try and outsmart everyone and in the end just outsmarts himself. Should be Walker-Smalling-Cahill-Rose; Wilshere-Alli-Rooney-Dier; Vardy-Kane, with Rashford and Sturridge as your top two other strikers.

I was actually thinking of putting Sterling out wide, he's looked good in the warmups out there. But not many great options for there, don't really like Henderson or Milner. Lallana maybe I guess. Using Sturridge as a starter is risking wasting a first half sub since he's due for an injury soon. Better to use him off the bench.

you dont need to play with two wingers, especially with how active Rose/Walker can be at full back

for Spurs the 3 behind Kane were Eriksen/Alli/Lamela, they all rotated centrally and off to either side but neither was an out and out winger, Sterling is a very similar player and they need his pace he should start

Vardy can be the pacey sub of the bench

Well I found a new bourbon that me and a pal drank all the supply of at Swine & Sow; Blandons Special..

As drunk as I got, it was still Milner as a holder. He's gonna Mclaren this tourney with his formation and selections.

Milner is a good squad player and situational substitute - but not a starter.

I think you can only run with 3 of the following 4 starting: Alli, Rooney, Vardy, Kane - the team looks disjointed with all 4 of them preferring to attack centrally.

I would opt for a 4 man midfield diamond with Alli at the attacking tip, Dier holding, Lallana and Sterling as the wider men, but not true wingers - Walker would overlap around Lallana on the right, Rose and Sterling alternating breaking forward on the left. Rooney plays slightly deeper than Kane, and drops into midfield when defending. Vardy is a "super-sub" off the bench, to run at tired defenders

Lallana picked as he can press upfield and he offers more than Milner would, and I doubt the fitness of Wilshere

I like Lallana as a squad player, and I like the idea of a late sub striker running down tired defenders, but feel Rashford or Sturridge can fulfill that. Vardy, has the stamina for the full 90, he's bloody tireless.

But, feel 5-3-2 just keeps making a case for itself, as the best formation possible, and still get the Walker/Rose overlap.

Milner/Wilshere/Henderson can play the defensive midfield, when Dier tires.

---------- Vardy Kane ----------------- (Rashford, Sturridge)
------ Rooney Ali Sterling ------------- (Lallana, Barkley, Henderson, Wilshere)
Rose Smalling Dier Cahill Walker ---- (Milner, Stones, Clyne, Bertrand)
------------- Hart

ya I like that, it can be fluid too

Spurs essentially play that system already with how Dier would drop in to defense when defending

5 wide when defending, then basically 3 at the back with the fullbacks pushing up

if a lead is ever needed to be defending as well you just take off 1-2 attackers and bring on Milner and Henderson

plus I think people have criticized Rooney's lack of pace now so much that it's forgotten his work rate is still so high, which is why a move to CM works well here and for Man U

he can basically play the role that Roy wants for Wilshere, he's good enough a passer to be a playmaker, and also not so aggressive that he will give up possession going for the killer balls all the time
