I liked those days. I wish Hockey Canada would go back to that.

This is an NHL mandated thing? I wonder if they tried to make it a business decision with its rosters, much like all-star rosters, in order to ensure they have so many players from each team and fanbases.
Unlike the Olympics, where there's cuts and international players on the list.

Slava Malamud @SlavaMalamud
Beginning next year, Russian national team coaches will have the right to order KHL teams to have certain lines and run certain plays.
Be like Hockey Canada ordering NHL teams to use certain lines and plays just to up Canada's chances at the World Championships.

Hahaha. I'm sure that will go over well. Who had the authority to order that? And why would they think that's a good idea?

I wonder how teams outside of Russia feel about that? Man that's a great decision for the nhl.

I don't mind Gio/Brodie/Backlund being extra motivated and not hurt coming into Flames camp.
It's a big year next year, you can't have a downward year two years in a row after making the playoffs. These guys need to be ready to step up.

I guess there's a certain reality check here. If you are one of the worst teams in the league, you probably don't have many players deserving of being named to the top teams like Canada, Sweden, NA.
Good for Monahan and Gaudreau.
Let the rest of our guys prove it on the ice this season.

i hate that the teams are named now. There is time for training camps and cuts like back in the Canada Cup days.

Giroux finally gets a sniff of high-level international competition. Hope he makes a good impression for future events. He's up there with Toews and Bergeron in terms of elite faceoff guys, and crazy good at setting up a powerplay. In one word, crafty.

Now this could be fun. John Scott wants to head up a team featuring the snubs for Team USA, Team Canada and Team Europe. Thinking about it it's likely they'd be able to compete for a medal. Half of Calgary's D along with Subban likely first picks on the backend.

I imagine Chia pet begged to get him on the roster seeing he's going to be dangling him and Eberle this summer in hopes of getting back a defensemen. I assume when he plays it's going to be in a 4th line role.

For me, Hamilton not making the U23 team was a bigger surprise than Gio or Brodie not making team Canada. Dougie was the 2nd highest scoring eligible Dman for that team (behind only Ghost) and really came on at the end of the season. His defensive game is no worse than the other Dmen on that squad and he's 6'5 and can skate with the big guys. That u-23 D core has 20 pt Dmen on it. Seems silly to leave the 40+ pt guy with similar credentials at home.
That snub reeks of Chiarelli salt and bitterness over not being able to aquire him at the draft last season mixed with the desire to keep a general Canada/USA split on the roster and the fact that Chia didn't want more Flames than Oilers on the team. Garbage either way.

No. He hasn't. He's shown he can't stay healthy for long. Galchenyuk scored 30 despite being misused by his idiot coach in Montreal, is terrific at faceoffs, etc.
I understand the Subban snub, Babcock won't play him so what's the point?
