Why trade with either Edmonton or Vancouver and give them assets when we can get a very good piece at 6? If it was for one of the top 3 that is a different story but it isn't.

Very much agree with this. Being 'stuck' with Nylander, Joe Levi or even Brown and having another pick is better than sending assets to Oilers or Canucks.

Friedman says he is hearing the Blue Jackets like Logan Brown:
http://www.todaysslapshot.com/from-t...op-draft-pick/
Quote:
“I just think the one thing Columbus really wants as much as anything else is a center. They traded Johansen, which I thought they made a really fair deal. But their depth at center, especially as you move forward over the years, it’s not as strong.
“I know some guys who are in the western part of Ontario, and they think that Columbus has some interest in Logan Brown. I can say this though – I don’t that think they’ve moving out of there if they think that Puljujarvi is long-term a center. But as I wrote, if they don’t project him as a center, I wonder if there’s the possibility they could move down.
“But two things have to happen. 1, they have to make sure the guy they want is available. And 2, they have to make sure they’re given enough to move down.
“I think it’s early. You’ve been talking to guys this week. I’ve been talking to guys this week too. Everybody now is bluffing. It’s like the early hands in poker. As one guy said to me today, ‘A lot of these decisions probably aren’t going to be made until the draft floor.’
“But I think some teams are wondering just how married Columbus is to that pick. Probably very happily in love, but you never know if something comes up.”

Assuming Matthews and 2 Finns are gone here is my top 5 at #4 for Oilers:
1. Tkachuk
2. Dubios
3. Sergachev
4. Brown
5. Chycrun
|
I'm surprised the Oilers haven't put up Tkachuk on their official website yet
(remember the Draisaitl incident?)

The great thing about this Columbus news is that even if Vancouver wanted to trade up now they would be at a disadvantage since they already traded pick #33 away.

Plz.
Then worry about a goalie in UFA or something.

Treliving being able to trade up for Pulju would be exciting. Hope he can get it done!

Yup - it really would be ideal.
IMO he is less dynamic than Laine but might actually end up being the better overall player. Laine has been getting all the hype but Puljujarvi actually had just as an impressive performance in the SM-Liiga playoffs as Laine did.
If Monahan is supposed to be our Toews, and Gaudreau our Kane, then Puljujarvi would be our Hossa.
If that pick is available I give them whatever it takes.

Burke on the fan says there's more than 6 on their list after the big 3. Thinks the guy they pick won't play right away but he'll be a good NHL'er.
Again he's contradicted himself from earlier quotes where he said there was a ledge at 6. Which is not a surprise really as their amature scouting meetings were this week.

more than 6 after the top 3 on their list matches what Conroy said earlier this week.

I think it would take a huge payment.
Backlund + Our 1st + All of our 2nds?
I think that might get it done as CBJ clearly wants some depth at center and Backs is probably the quintessential depth center.
It would be tough to see him go but if we're confident with Jankowski I think I'd do it... but that guy seems to bleed Flames.

Thats extreme. If they figure they can get Brown @6 and they're comfortable moving down. a 2nd and a 4th would be in the historical ball park, and if I am not mistaken, on the higher end.

Yeah but has there been a trade when there was such a profound gap between 3 and the rest?

I'm okay with a trade down. Mike McLeod is still a guy I think the Flames would be really high on along with Gauthier.
