Let me put it this way: if someone told you, "I'm not a Flames fan or an Avalanche fan, but I really love Iginla. He's been a great player for so long, and I hope he wins a cup because he deserves to."
Would you be surprised, or have a hard time understanding why he'd say that?

Because it's nice to see one of the three or four best players of the last decade get a Stanley Cup?
I would be happy with even the Sedins winning a cup (for a non-Canucks team).
Multiple cup wins for the same old teams are boring, unless it's my team.

Don't understand all these closet SJ fan boys coming out suddenly.

I think it's just that Thornton is a likeable guy, that is usually a pretty good interview and friendly with fans, that has taken a lot of grief from the media for his playoff performances.
Lots of people would rather see somebody like that win than Crosby who is the golden boy of the NHL (and he has he cup already).

This doesn't make sense. You do realize you can be a Flames fan AND be fans of players from other teams right? I was cheering on guys like Sakic, Yzerman, and Selanne winning a cup, and they were never Calgary Flames.

does anyone here recall why Iginla didn't stay with the Pens? Too bad for him now - and the fans - having Thorton and Iginla face off for their last shot at the Cup would have been amazing TV.

He thought he was gonna play on Crosby's right wing a la 2010 Olympics, instead Bylsma had him playing on Malkin's left wing, where he just wasn't comfortable. Boston also gave him a hefty salary bonus that I don't think Pittsburgh could match.

When you 'cheer' for the worst team of the last decade, you find yourself rooting for certain players. I was really hoping to see either Thornton or Ovi lift the Cup this year, and only one is left. I find them both to be very likeable, incredibly talented guys. It would be a shame if either of them never won a Cup.

I am always in favour of players that are HHOF talents like Marleau and Thornton to get cups. It sucks to see those that have those rare sets of abilities not be rewarded for all their hard work at least once.
The key players for Pittsburgh have already won one except Kessel and I don't see too many people champing at the bit for him to win it.

I'm indifferent to who wins the Cup (no grudge with either team), but there's two unsung guys I'm cheering for - Joel Ward and Martin Jones.

I would like to see Marleau and Thornton hoist the cup. Like others have said they're likable guys that have had solid careers, nice to see players like that win the cup.

I despise the Pens and I do not like Crosby at all.
Really hope San Jose can win this. They deserve one after being perennial contenders for more than a decade now.

I actually kind of want Kessel to get his name on the cup because it seems like he took a ridiculous amount of unnecessary abuse in Toronto. Would love to see TO fans and media have to deal with seeing him win.
But I'm fine with either of these teams taking the cup this year.

Put me in the Pens camp. If Mailkin decides to actually show up and play for more than few minutes a game it will be the Pens in 5 or 6.
I won't be upset to see the Sharks win I just have no love for Thorton and Marleau.
I think it will be a very good series. Two contrasting styles of play. Speed of the Penguins vs. the size and down low play of the Sharks.

Sharks have no shortage of speed.

Say it with me, Justin Schultz, Stanley Cup champion. Has a nice ring to it.
Other than that, just give me a good, long series and that's all I care about for this year's finals.

Can't ever cheer for a conference rival let alone a divisional rival, so go Penguins.
Plus it's been awesome to watch the Penguins switch to a third line of skill after years of wasting their top-end talent trying to fill the bottom six with grit! size! toughness! black and blue! intimidation! only to watch them get crushed come playoff time. Gone are the days of Lapierre, Cooke, Glass, Sill, Pyatt, Asham, and whatever other plugs they rolled out over the years.
Also notable is Mike Sullivan transitioning them from a North-South "off the glass and out", "dump and chase", "shoot from everywhere" team to a fast-paced transition team which places an emphasis on clean five-man breakouts, possession, and fluid creativity in the offensive zone.

Oh yeah, I'm also against Sullivan winning a Cup. I don't like the way he yells at people on the bench. I think he's stupid.
