Tre is crazy if we let this guy go. Agreed that ideally Wideman and Smid will be gone, but either way you have to figure out how to keep Nak. Personally I want him on the team but worst case scenario he becomes a tradeable asset.

Anyone think Engellend is tradable after his solid year?

Hate to think we lose Nakladal like we did Schlemko

Sure hope so. He's seen steady improvement throughout the year. Cannon of a shot and he's not afraid to use it. So modest and humble in his few interviews he's had as well. Like the player and the person.

I agree that the team needs to find a way to keep this guy because he's a good bottom pairing guy but it'll be tough. They have to get rid of Smid, Wideman and possibly even Engelland (who I'd prefer to keep). Smid can go on the LTIR or retire and they should be able to find a taker for Wideman but I don't think BT wants to sign a player before he knows for sure that he has room, he learned his lesson last year with the goalie situation. I'd like to see Nak back on the team but I don't think losing him will be devastating because I can see a couple of rookies making a push to make the team this year

Engelland has good value IMO. But he's our only defenceman who makes the opposition pay the iron price so I don't think we can move him. Our defense would be too soft without him.

I sure hope they do, I bought 3 of those signed pucks from the Wives near the end of the season and ended up with 2 Nakladals and a Ramo. ugh haha

Can't blame BT for Feaster's bungles. Having Wideman and Smid plugging up spots with their terrible contracts makes it kind of hard to add to the defense.

Can't see why we wouldn't sign him. There is more room on the blue line this year than last year.

Im on the fence.

I am fine with all of our D prospects continuing to develop in the AHL, etc.
However, Wotherspoon should be in our top 7, unless he has a terrible camp.

Giordano
Brodie
Hamilton
Joki
Engelland
Wideman
Smid
Wotherspoon
Nak

So there is 9 d-men right there. If Smid can be put on LTIR and we can trade Wideman, id be all for re-signing Nak, otherwise, im not sure.

Joki essentially replaces Russell's roster spot and everything else is the same. + Wotherspoon needs to make the team or face waivers. Id rather keep Wotherspoon then Nak, so I am not sure if there is more room this year.

I would like the team to keep him but there is already a major logjam at the position as things current stand and Wotherspoon must be added to the mix next season or he's going to likely be claimed on waivers. It's imperative that Treliving trades Wideman at the draft and resolves the Smid situation before training camp.

I agree that Wotherspoon is probably the most "ready" out of our defence prospects. But realistically, the chances of him making the team out of camp are relatively low. He has so many other guys to compete with, and just based on that alone, his chances of making the team are slim.

If you consider his play throughout his entire career, he probably deserves to make the team more than most other prospects do. But the Flames put quite a bit of weight on the training camp and preseason games. Someone will have the opportunity to take that spot from him. Many people will have this opportunity. Chances are, at least one other person has a fantastic camp and steals that spot from him.

I wouldn't count him out. I don't think Wotherspoon was a Hartley favorite and it's possible the new coach likes him more. I actually thought he looked maybe a little better than Nakladal when they were both in the lineup.

Wotherspoon added a physical element to his game towards the end of the year and was steady - very steady - in his given minutes.

I think he makes the team out of camp.

He has to make the team out of camp or be exposed to waivers. At the least id like to see him get a 5-10 game stint and if he sucks, then waive him, but give him a legit opportunity, we have been developing him for a while and id hate to loss him on waivers without giving him a legit chance.

No way Wotherspoon or Smid or Wideman are above Nak.

Wotherspoon is looking like a career bubble guy and the other two are on their way out. All 3 play worse than him.

I liked what I saw from him in his limited time. I'd be disappointed if they don't sign him. Ideally I think I'd like to see him signed for 2 years and in our top 6 starting next season. I've always liked Wotherspoon, but I think I'd go Nakladal over him if they had to keep one. Hopefully Treliving can get rid of Wideman and or Smid and we have both Nak and Wotherspoon as the 5/6/7 guys.

Getting rid of Wideman and Smid (some how) and keeping Nakladal would be great.

I would rather have Nak on the roster than Spoon.
