Suggesting he wasn't focusing on the Flames while over-seas seems really odd.

His work ethic and meticulousness is well documented. It seems crazy to suggest he wasn't working diligently while in Russia where a huge network of hockey people were present for that tournament.

Travis Green got the press. Glen Gulutzan got the interview. But neither may get the gig.

According to Vancouver general manager Jim Benning, the Calgary Flames asked for permission to speak with Gulutzan, the Canucks’ assistant coach. But they have yet to ask for permission to speak to Green, the successful Utica Comets head coach, as a possible replacement for the fired Bob Hartley.
Quote:
“I haven’t really talked to anybody about this because I don’t think it’s fair for the team that’s doing the interview or the person who’s up for getting interviewed,” Benning said Tuesday.

“But I can say they (Flames) asked for permission and have talked to him (Gulutzan) and if he doesn’t get the job, we like Glen and he’s going to be back with our group.

“He does a good job and this (interview) is just part of the evolution and the process to allow him to be an NHL head coach again one day.”
Quote:
As many as 10 candidates may be considered for the Flames’ position and the front-runners now appear to be New Jersey Devils assistant coach Geoff Ward and former Edmonton Oilers head coach Ralph Krueger. Flames GM Brad Treliving has cited the experience of building something of significance at various levels in the game as being a key criteria to develop his young players and get the Flames back to the playoffs.

I would want Kruger so we can win a Cup with him and laugh all the way past Edmonton, once again at the bottom of the standings. It would just be too perfect.

Krueger just won't go away. Despite not even being in hockey right now.

Though I fully expect this is completely speculation based on Kuzmas interview of Benning and piecing together other reports.

He didn't really qualify why he thinks Ward and Krueger are front runners.

I will say with all this Kruger talk, that I firmly believe Edmonton made a mistake when firing him. Knew nothing about him prior to getting that job, but his season with the Oil was the one where I felt they took the most steps forward, and went backwards after letting him go.

Also love the he got fired via Skype angle, or am I wrong.

I'd be interested even without that. He's responsible for the growth the the Swiss National program and he did more with a terrible Oilers team than anyone else has in close to a decade.

Than he talks about "this".

What's with this guy putting his own employee on the spot and breaking silence about another teams moves. Maybe he just intentionally wants to screw with the Flames or he just likes to feed his ego by saying "look what I know".

Kruger is well thought of amongst Canadian coaching circles as well as in Europe.

Quote:
The former Edmonton Oilers coach, who got a call from Babcock the day Craig MacTavish fired him last June, lives in Switzerland and used to coach the Swiss national team. He has a unique perspective on international hockey that current NHL coaches simply don’t share.
Quote:
Given that Canada did not win a medal the last time the Olympics were in Europe eight years ago, Krueger is being counted on to try to correct what went wrong in Turin. And who better to get advice from than the coach who helped Switzerland beat Canada in those Games.

I'd be on board with Krueger getting our job.

Didn't realize that Krueger also played with the Calgary Wranglers in 78'/79' with 35 goals and 60 assists along with 83 pims.

Eric Duhatscheck is one of the most respected journalists and insiders in the game. He has mentioned Krueger's name on multiple occasions now as it relates to the Flames coaching vacancy. Having Duhatschek's name attached to this rumour gives it significant credibility to me.

I, for one, welcome our former Oiler under-lord.

Ralph Krueger, please coach this team.

I don't follow coaching very closely. Is Krueger the guy that wouldn't let the team eat snacks in the dressing room, and is possessed by analytics ?
