Except Americans don't pay attention to Canadian news channels to see what we're saying about them. It's constant from the comedy shows. I think they use the same tired Canadian jokes because they don't know or understand our country.

Plus, it's not our fault the US keeps coming up with new ways for us to embarrass them with, ie Trump.

Americans know little about Canadians and Canada in general making the comparison mostly invalid. Also the general attitudes I see are Canadians strong dislike for the American government not the people.

My wife is american, and I gotta say, my inlaws play up to the American stereotype to a T. They're like cartoon characters.

Canadians treat Americans the way Edmonton treats Calgary - we are are on their mind way more then they are on ours

OT - Funny you'd bring up Edmonton in a thread where no one really talks about Edmonton. Why are THEY on YOUR mind this much?

I have always been amazed by the parallels in the two relationships, and the posted I had quoted nailed it on the head in my mind

It's like the mayor a city vs a presidential candidate with a decent shot at actually winning aren't the same thing.

I would be New York City alone has had at least 3 mayors who did similar, or worse, as Rob Ford.

You know Canadian politics is uninteresting/uneventful when you keep seeing headlines like: Trudeau to take day off during Japan trip to celebrate wedding anniversary

He should be fired. Treliving for PM.

Canada PM Trudeau's popularity soars:

Quote:
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's popularity has reached a new high, even after his arguably worst day in office that saw him recently jostle fellow lawmakers, a poll found Tuesday.

I'm not surprised. The Conservative and NDP reaction to this were so ridiculous, people are forgiving the transgression to spite the reaction.

My wife is American and the comments people make about Americans in general, not the government, are quite shocking. It is to the point where she does not want to be a Canadian because of how we talk about Americans. I know it is anecdote vs anecdote but the comments are probably more noticeable when they apply directly to a loved one.

Anyway... Sorry for the derail, Canadians attitudes towards Americans is a trigger for me...

Re: Popularity, It is no wonder the PM has come out on top of this. He lost his cool, showed emotion but reigned it and apologized several times for his actions. This should be a non issue and it is embarrassing how the PCs and NDPs have been acting.

Also anecdotally,as a big traveler, I've found attitudes towards Americans to be far worse from from countries other than Canada. I have actually defended Americans on so many occasions.

Ruth Ellen Brosseau has shocked the New Democrat Party by announcing her decision to quit politics and pursue a career as a professional soccer player. The NDP MP made the announcement outside the House of Commons today, only days after being elbowed in the chest by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and hours after a video emerged of her “world class performance”.

“Given the recent circumstances I no longer feel safe to continue as a female politician in Canada,” she told the BSJ. “Instead I will pursue a career in an industry that involves no physical contact whatsoever, soccer.”

The 32-year-old caught the attention of the football world, after her exploits against the PM, which prompted Argentine legend Maradona, to tweet his “respect” for Brosseau’s display, claiming her instinctive skills of deception, and quick thinking, would stand her in good stead for a “long career in football”.

“The way she twisted her body to maximise impact, before launching herself backwards, was the sign of a player ideally suited to this sport,” he explained. “Capped off with a large scream to alert the authorities. She’s really mastered the fundamentals.”
