So I'm doing a lot of spring cleaning and went down under the stairs in my basement and found some old house crap from the builder (house was built in 2013). Tiles, paint, etc. But I also found like... 10 or 12 planks of spare hardwood. Is this of any use to me at all? Do people hang on to this stuff? Toss it? Recycle it? Sell it?
If you have space, I hang onto stuff like that in case you need spares
But how would I go about using it? One of my planks on the main floor has a very obvious gouge ... isn't it an enormous pain in the ass to replace planks?

Not too bad. You could cut it out and lay a new one in its place. Easy to screw up but doesn't require any special tools or anything. Just have to be extremely careful that you don't cut into any other boards. I actually might be doing it this summer, have a plank that's gouged in front of my dishwasher

Hire a professional. They can easily do it and it will be much cheaper than having them replace the entire floor.
If anyone is interested, my brother does very high quality hardwood flooring installation and repair in Calgary. I've seen his work, it's really excellent and I hate giving him any credit whatsoever, so you can trust what I'm saying. PM me if anyone wants his business info.
