Default Wanted: Sunburst Strat

Looking for a sunburst strat, Mexican (if the price is right) or preferably American with maple neck.

Any ideas where I should look besides the usual Guitarworks or L&M?

I got a sunburst Tele (Mexican) at Guitarworks for about $600-ish, I think.

That was a few years ago, but they seemed at the time to have the best prices for the selection.

Go with a Japanese Strat.

Every bit the instrument as an American (save Fender Custom Shop).

Can’t really help you with the location as I’m not from your area

I would suggest doing as much testing as you can to find your perfect match. Fender produces six popular neck shapes and I would suggest to really find the one that contours to your playing and go with that. Oh and don't worry about pickups as those can easily be changed.

If you can go with the American, you won’t look back. Sorry but I have yet to play a Japanese guitar built with the same quality of the one I eventfully went with. There’s a big difference and you get what you pay for.

Thanks, that diagram really helps! I didn't consider the necks previously as I definetely do need a smaller neck if possible since it's difficult to wrap my thumb around the top (need to for some blues) on thicker necks since I already have small hands.

It's difficult to find a place that really has that kind of selection set out though, unless I goto a custom neck shop.

I know I just missed a Mexican Strat for only $250 from a guy in Calgary that I googled from the buy/sell part of another forum. Darn! Again - L&M and Guitarworks don't seem to have that much selection (and they are the only authorized dealers for Fender in Calgary). Wish we had some of those Guitar warehouses like they do in the US or Britain.

So umm, anybody know any guitar stores in Calgary that would actually have a neck selection like that? L&M really sucks for selection really.

I'll second this one. I own a MIJ '60's Strat and the build quality on it is fantastic.

I've spent over $5k on guitars at music center canada in calgary and would highly recommend them.

Also remember that guitars are like cars, they never sell for the listed price. At least expensive ones are, don't try it with a $100 dollar guitar
