Default Recent movies that got horrible reviews that you liked

2 I thought were great right off the top of my head.

The Matador
Elizabethtown

Anybody else see these? Others that the critics ripped that you thought were great?

I don't get to see enough movies--but I liked "V for Vendetta" a lot, in spite of its getting widely panned both by Alan Moore loyalists and the mainstream media.

Lady in the water was awesome. Awesome to the max.

Shame about the title, but it sums it up pretty well. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone, especially if you like 6th sense, unbreakable, the village... m. night. shamalan (sp?)

Jackass 2. - Check your brain at the door. Get ready to laugh and be grossed out.

I thought The Matador was really good. Critics didn't like it?

I watched this a couple weeks ago and thought it was pretty incredible. I thought the guy that played V did an impressive job of conveying emotion without the use of his face at all.

A somewhat recent movie that got widely slammed was King Arthur with Clive Owen. I rather enjoyed it.

Watched the Matador over the weekend. Greg Kinner is perfect in that type of role, I enjoyed it.

I don't think Hostage got good reviews, but watched it recently and liked that too.

liked 'brick', it got a rough ride from papers but i recommend it - especially those of you that fall asleep to late night cable and catch those old 'film noir' bogart flicks, with the catchy lingo. felt lost in the movie until buddy gets 'in' - then it takes right off.

i liked the matador a bit, but i think it's a mess of a movie - crying for ten minutes, then a funny moment, etc. - isn't that the type of movie that critics love?

can't really say - i tuned those dudes out years ago.

Hostage is a good one. I recently picked up mortal kombat out of the cheap bin because I loved it when I was young. 11 years later I still didn’t mind it.

Elrond from LOTR and Agent Smith from the Matrix Series.

Hugo Weaving.

Man I LOVED this movie.

Another might be Lucky Number Sleven. Didn't hear much about it, but I rented it and really enjoyed it. Maybe it got good reviews, I'm kinda out of the loop as far as movies go.

I agree Matador was really good and I too heard bad things about it. I did hear some good reviews too, wasn't he nominated for that role?

well The Matador got 75% on the Tomatometer so most people like it. Many of the "bad" reviews are really passable movie reviews (to qualify as a fresh tomato it must be 6/10 or higher). It was a good movie.

Elizabethtown was as bad as the critics said IMO.

Bad reviewed move that I liked....probably the last one that come to mind is last years The Island. And I think the last X-men was poorly reviewed but I still enjoyed it.

On the flip side the last movie that had good reviews that I didn't like was The Illusionist. Just way to predictable and they could have had a very good political drama storyline. Instead the wimped out and made a pretty generic PG-13 romance. Perhaps it wasn't bad but I didn't like because the premise had so much more promise than what was actually delivered.

I liked Poseidon. I watched the other day at home, and didn't really understand why it was getting whaled on by critics. It's your run of the mill disaster movie.

They can't all be Titanic.

I liked the Matador too. Two of my favourite underrated movies are Ravenous and Unbreakable. Tigerland, the Proposition and Wind that Shakes the Barley were my recent favourites althought I think they all got good reviews.

Lucky Number Slevin was great. I really enjoyed it.

Anytime you get to watch Ben Kingsley, its a treat IMO.

Ever see The House of Sand and Fog?

Guys, its ok if the thread strays from the poorly reviewed theme. I just like talking about films.

I haven't had a chance to see either but will look them up, I thought he was quite good in Oliver Twist though as fagan - Guy Pearce is one of the actors I enjoy watching usually.
