Perhaps with the Bruins undergoing a re-tooling, maybe Rask could be available.

Would make more sense for them than dealing Subban.

I voted Reimer because he is a really good goalie who never got the credit he deserved in Toronto. Plus he is from the westcoast. If you guys do sign him he will quickly become a fan favourite. Plus I think it makes the most sense for the Flames as a team where you are at. You don't want to sign a Bishop because you aren't a true contender yet. But you want someone who can win you games and get you into the playoffs.

Not enough people are looking long term with there picks. This team needs a younger starter then we don't have to replace in 3-4 years.

Too bad we didn't trade Kris Russell, a 2nd rounder and miscellaneous garbage for Murray when we had the chance.

What do people think of this Flames Nation article?

http://flamesnation.ca/2016/5/16/cou...est-trade-chip

Very interesting idea but I'm not convinced...yet.

I don't believe that Gillies is going to bring back a big return as Cam Talbot had some very solid NHL experience under his belt and all he fetched was 2nd, 3rd, and 7th rounder. Most teams have a guy like him in their system and you will have to find a team that really, really likes him to get a decent return.

I think the idea that they trade Elliott this summer is equally if not more ridiculous.
Same with the Lightning and Bishop. These teams are at the peak of their Cup windows and it makes little sense to turn a team strength of goaltending depth into a weakness (one injury away from unknown) when you have two solid goaltenders under contract going into next season.

I presume this should be green text. Murray was never available. Penguins came straight out and said they would not trade him. That's before he was even getting playing time on the big club.

Maybe they're thinking Gillies succeeds their 3-4 year goalie which would be a part of long term thinking.

My first choice would be Frederik Andersen as well. I think he'd cost much less than Ben Bishop and he's much more likely to be available.

Ya Hiller/Ramo made that when we had money to spare. Money is becoming increasingly tight. There also is the scenario where he leaves for nothing and the whole thing was pointless.

Until we see Gillies as a pro, we really can't be sure of what we have.

And the same is true for other teams. In other words, his trade value isn't exactly high right now.

The key with a prospect pool is patience. Let's let Gillies develop and see if he can become the starter many think he can be.

The Flames need a goalie. Right now. No question. But there are LOTS of them around. The Flames will get something done. Absolutely no need to trade one of our best young prospects, at a discount, to try and solve the problem.

That's how perpetual rebuilds are born.

But none of the younger guys who are likely to be available are proven starters. Projecting a goalie accustomed to playing 25-30 games a year as a starter is far from an exact science (see Bernier, Jonathan).

Isn't the plan to have Gillies in place in 3-4 years? That is what I believe will happen so I agree we shouldn't be looking too far down the road with a goalie

Look how long it has taken for Jake Allen to take the net in St. Louis. 4 years ago he was where Gillies is now and he still hasn't nailed down the starting goaltender role.

I watched a lot of Detroit this season. There is NO way that Detroit would move Mrazek.

That said if there is anyway you could acquire Petr, you do it without thinking twice.

Hes young and I totally believe will be a top 5 goalie in the NHL...but I'm 100% sure the Red Wings also believe that.

Gillies has tons of potential, but in no way should Flames brass be pencilling him in as the starter at any time until he actually takes the job and runs with it.

Luckily, I highly doubt BT is doing that, which is why you heard rumours of him looking at Murray. I'm confident his plan A is to get a young starter who is further along and proven more than Gillies at this point. Will be hard to execute that plan though obviously. Hopefully Howard's garbage contract combined with Mrazek's UFA status will help him somehow achieve that goal.

Dumb article, but expect nothing less from flamesnation. Trade away your best goaltending prospect for, wait for it, another goaltending prospect. Gilles straight up is not going to get you a guy ready to start. Flames have to sweeten the pot. At that point you not addressing the need. If you want a goaltender to improve our goaltending depth, go out and get a goaltender. Don't trade a goaltender of similar potential for another goaltender of similar potential, even if they are a few months ahead in supposed progression. You only hurt the depth you are trying to build. This is the original "trade the boat for the box" gag.

I dont know why everyone wants one of the most expensive goalies out there in this cap era, especially when he will be looking at a raise in a year. I would stay away from Bishop.

I would like Pickard and Reimer tandem, short of that I would like Fleury as an experienced starter if that fails

If Treliving threatened an offersheet Detroit may be more willing to discuss a trade.
