No Benzema for France at Euro 2016. Not selected, assumably as a result of the Valbuena situation?
Too bad for them, he's having a pretty solid season when he's been able to play.

Good call by Deschamps, I would have done the same. They have a lot of talent up front (Martial, Payet, Griezmann, Coman, Giroud, Lacazette, Valbuena, Fekir), it's probably better to avoid the drama that Benzema brings.

It does speak to how ridiculously deep France is up front that they can decide to leave him off. Top striker, but obviously you don't want your other players wondering if they're going to get blackmailed.

It just wouldnt be the French if there wasnt some sort of insanity. If it isnt headbutts its revolts against the coach, player strikes or blackmail, but its always gotta be something.

Probably saw Griezmann score a couple today and thought "Screw it, why even bother with the headache of bringing him to Euros"

Well, technically Benzema bowed out before the match.
My question is: WTF was Benzema doing? What was the point? Didnt he blackmail Valbuena for like $100K? Doesnt Benzema make that a week? Why?

to be fair, a front three with Payet, Martial and Griezmann with guys like Pogba and Kante sitting behind them ... that's deadly too, even without Benzema.

I don't think he was intentionally trying to blackmail. I think he got involved as a go between not realizing that he was basically putting himself right in the middle as a result.
