Setting up a website and message board

I have a client who is looking to set up a website (accessible to the public) with a message board that is accessible via a members' login. This would be for a relatively small number of members to use (less than 100).

I have never set up a message board before, and I'm wondering if someone could offer some guidance.

I have looked into creating a wordpress page with various plugins, which might be an option, but I'm curious what else is out there. I would like a solution where the website and the message board do not require separate domain names or hosting.

SMF (Simple Machines Forum) is really easy - I knew absolutely zip about their system when I used them and found it very easy to learn. I used it for several years, to provide a forum similar to CalgaryPuck (different focus, not sports related). Didn't have a website though. I believe we used CharlottezWeb as our host/domain provider and they utilize SMF.

I use two different services for CFLHorsemen.ca

I use Fatcow as my site host, and use Weebly as the site building tool which is very easy, they also have wordpress.

I use PHPBB for our message board, its pretty cheap at $50.00 a year but it allows us to put ads up on the site to generate revenue. They limit you in terms of addons to the board itself in terms of customization. But they are incredibly stable even when we have heavy traffic.
