Exactly. Everyone has a brother or sister or cousin who can hook them up if they want. It's been going on for decades. Legal or not doesn't change this. People have extremely easy access to marijuana as it stands.

Not to mention legalization would unquestionably contain some sort of tax flow into awareness and addiction treatment.

As I have said, given that there is a risk factor, why take the risk? Is getting high really that important to people? It is incredibly flippant.

Ha ha ha ha. Few here have probably done and seen what I have. It's no fun being forced via death threat to do lines of coke in the back of a car between two Hells Angels thugs to show you aren't a nark. That's what happens when you first get introduced to the real dealers. I got no problems with legalization marginalizing those types of operations even though weed is just one of many illegal substances.

Yes, you could step off the curb tomorrow and get slammed by a bus. Doesn't mean you don't rationally mitigate your risk.

This statement really stands out as being written by somebody who is completely ignorant on the topic at hand. I really don't believe that you have 'smoked weed 10 times before', let alone once.
I have an alcoholic, gambling degenerate Uncle who is as opposed to weed as you are. And the reason he's so opposed to it is because he doesn't have a ####ing clue.
Is keeping this drug illegal really that important to you? Or are you just a grumpy old man who hates change?

Speaking as someone with a fairly benign mental health issue, I can say that marijuana triggers my symptoms far worse than I have ever experienced in day to day life.

No, I am a 30 year old with a graduate degree who has worked closely with vulnerable populations - in both the public and private sectors.

It also doesn't mean you stand on the other side of the street plugging your ears going "nope nope nope", regardless of if the sign says you can go or not because there's a small chance (likely bigger than obtaining mental illness from smoking pot) that you might get hit by a car, or a bike, or a kid on a skateboard.

Why risk standing on a busy curb waiting for the bus? People should be able to make their own choices. You don't agree, so don't use it.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had the ability to do extensive research on whether or not someone with your issue may have a poor reaction to marijuana, why, and to know it as a child so you didn't have find out yourself like you did?

As the study I posted states ( http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/doi/....2016.15070878):
Quote:
For each year adolescent boys engaged in regular marijuana use, their expected level of subsequent subclinical psychotic symptoms rose by 21% and their expected odds of experiencing subsequent subclinical paranoia or hallucinations rose by 133% and 92%, respectively. The effect of prior regular marijuana use on subsequent subclinical psychotic symptoms persisted even when adolescents stopped using marijuana for a year. These effects were after controlling for all time-stable and several time-varying confounds. No support was found for reverse causation.

This is terrifying.

99% of teens are not dealing with a 'real' dealer. There are going to be at least 5 middlemen between the grower and the high school kid selling it to you. And who knows what it's been laced with, what chemicals were used in the hydroponics, if it was cured for long enough, if it was sprayed with stuff to make it weigh more, etc.
BTW If you are dealing with Hells Angels, you made a very poor choice at some point in your life.

So why allow them access to a substance that increases said behaviour?
