Mike Birner 2 goals and an assist. Czech lead 4-2 and Sweden pulls the goalie with 5 minutes to go.

Matthews looked like a good, strong, and smart player. Nothing spectacular though.
Laine showed off his shot and physical play but I didn't notice much else.

Laine & Matthews were pretty invisible apart from few flashes, but all in all, a pretty good game, lots of action.

I have rarely seen such a badly coached game from Team Finland. Christ that made my head hurt at times. Luckily we had the better players.
To pick out a lesser talked about youngster, Sebastian Aho is really fun to watch.

If Kyle Connor wasn't the steal of the draft last year, Sebastian Aho was... taken 35th, and has no comparables in his draft +1 year. Only other guy who met that description this year? Mitch Marner.

Just a ridiculous save by the Latvian goalie.

Yeah Aho looks like an absolute steal at this point. Great pick by Carolina. He's gonna be a player.

Any chance Jukka Jalonen would be considered for a HC position in the NHL? I read someone suggesting him for the Flames position. Thoughts?

Dylan Strome had a good draft +1 year too.

Personally I'd be all for it. Jukka Jalonen has commented that he's theoretically interested but hasn't personally done anything towards that goal, so someone would have to come looking for him specifically, which is very unlikely.
Plus I believe he just signed a two-year contract with Jokerit.

Sure, but Strome had comparables this season, and 80% of them went on to have full on NHL careers. That's really good. But Kyle Connor's comparables are 100%. Every similar player has had a successful NHL career.
Meanwhile, Aho and Marner have no comparables. There have been no similar players (age, size and scoring rate in the league they played in). Ever.

That for sure would be interesting, but as Itse said, he signed a 2-year contract with Jokerit (KHL).
Also, just pointing out: Kari Jalonen is the coach of Team Finland at the moment.
You might have known but just pointing out.

Didn't Kari briefly play for the Flames?

No I didn't know but thanks!
Any thoughts on if he could adapt well to the NA game? Has there ever been a euro coach in the NHL??

Here's Stone's goal but it doesn't show his takeaway to get the puck.

He was pretty consistently mediocre or flat out bad at everything he did (and quite often got quickly fired), but that never stopped him from getting another gig, usually with a sizable salary. That combination of arts and sports background of course made him a TV darling as a commentator. Such an annoying windbag.
His two Swiss championships as a coach are for me the biggest proof that team success doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the skill of the head coach.
