Little Mosque On The Prairie
CBC is looking at a new program tentatively named "Little Mosque On The Prairie."
Could it work?

ROFLMAO!!!
What a waste of time and money by the CBC...nothing unusual. How long until the Corporation ceases to exist? Right after they lose the NHL HNIC rights to CTV?

How can you call it a waste of time, you haven't even seen a script!
If you're a fan of Corner Gas, I'm going to laugh myself 10 lbs. lighter.

It could fail, or it could approach modest loyalty, or it could become the next canadian hit series following in the line of kids in the hall, degrassi and sctv.

...and how often does that happen? One out of maybe every 20 CBC shows become modestly successful. There aren't many North Of 60's out there.

True.
They also don't have the budgets that are usually required to compete with american and other canadian originated shows. My point is, why are we talking about whether it's going to be a flop or not, when we barely even know what it's about.

Because it's our money..and it would be nice to know it's not being wasted.

Ah why not. It sounds like it could be rather comical...and really...what else does CBC have going for it right now?

At least an idea like this has a chance to get out there..maybe it will suck, maybe not, who knows. There's not many avenues for original television ideas to be tried out these days..major networks are saturated with the same old stuff. And thank god its not another reality show.

Were any of those produced by the CBC? Not as far as I can remember.
As far as I'm concerned the only good thing the CBC has money invested in right now is Doctor Who and that's by the BBC.

Kids in the Hall was, and SCTV for a couple seasons (that is how Bob and Doug came about - NBC was also airing the show, but had extra commercials. The CBC asked the SCTV writers to fill the time with something "Canadian". The writers were offended since the whole show is Canadian, so Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis came up with their over the top satire of Canadiana - Bob & Doug.) SCTV was also on Global (in it's early incarnation) and was produced independantly.
I believe degrassi has been independant in all its incarnations, but I haven't followed it at all.

Kids in the Hall was definately one of the best Canadian shows ever. Wonder if they'll ever make another movie?
"Little Mosque On The Prairie" sounds interesting. I'll definately watch it at least once.

What exactly does that have to do with this story?
