They would most likely be IP cameras sending their feed back through the Axia (Alberta Supernet) connection. Wasn't there news that they could get in to refuel the generators and the network was down?

Quite a large chunk of firefighters are heading to Anzac. Apparently the winds shifted.

Just wondering, but do they know how the fire started? I know it's been dry and warm all winter, but I was reading that they think it was likely caused by humans. They didn't give any more details, so I was wondering if anyone knows or if it is just speculation at this point.

Hey guys another update.

This was looking from Mcmurray across the Athabasca River last night

Raising the Canadian flag at fire hall 1 downtown

Guys are sleeping where they can when they get a short break

This is what it looks like to live in a fire truck for a week

The devastation is unreal

The firefighters aren't deterred.

I can tell you that although everyone is exhausted they are incredibly thankful for all the support they have been receiving. From the other fire departments, RCMP, and paramedics, to even the guys driving the fuel trucks and the people cooking the food so they can have a hot meal. The guys are very aware of the support they are receiving from the general public and are quite in awe of it.

Just to put things in perspective. One of the guys was able to get a shower today for the first time in a week, it was ice cold because the gas lines have been cut off in the city but he told me it was the most amazing shower he had ever had!

Twitter is going off on how CNRL is staying open. People are allowed to leave but they doubt they will have a job to come back to if they do. Apparently the smoke is pretty bad, but otherwise it shouldn't affect operations, just not great to breath it in all day.

Interested to see the insurance aftermath of this incident, especially after the Calgary and High River incidents...

I am on the CNRL horizon site. Social media is skewing things a bit. The smoke was high yesterday morning and they had evacuation procedures in place if it continued being bad. It cleared up by mid morning yesterday and the day was perfectly fine after that.

We are 75kms north of fort mcmurray and as such are not yet impacted directly by the fire. The tree line for the most part is also not too close to the site as much of it was burned up in the fire 5 years ago around site. CNRL also got permission from the government to clear out the trees that were close to the airstrip.

There is a strong reaction from here in Toronto. My company is matching donations, and they have no operations west of the GTA in Canada.

I went to the Loblaws in the old Maple Leaf Gardens, and all their checkouts have calls for donations for Fort McMurray. I have heard zero negative comments.

Good to hear there is a bit of rain this morning. Hopefully it continues and the wind dies down.

Same here on Vancouver Island. Went to the liguor store in Nanaimo and all the checkouts had signs about donating to Fort McMurray. Most people were adding a donation to their total. I have heard nothing but heart felt support for the people of Alberta.

Karma just kicked our favourite former NDP candidate in the ass. - Tom Moffatt suspended from his job with the City of Taber, likely to lose his job.

One of the guys yesterday was asked that at a press conference. They are working on it, but don't know yet.

I'm guessing cigarette butt. Fire started right on the side of the highway heading out of town, there was no lightning in the area at the time of the fire. Definitely man made.
