Well if Carlyle is hire we will know that this is Burke's team and not Treliving's.

Because you know Treliving so well and you know he'd never hire Carlyle unless his hand was forced?

I'm not a dummy, I understand that if that ends up being the hire why people would look to Burke, but after everything Treliving has done, all the fears (some) had that Burke would simply be puppet master in the back ground yet him seemingly staying out of it for the most par to date, is it really fair to immediately suggest that Burke must be meddling at the first time a decision we might not like happens?

Burke worked with him once already. If he had a bad opinion on him i doubt he even gets an interview

That's a very different statement you just made vs. "pushing for him".

Definitely unhappy hearing that we're even giving him a sniff, but then again it's only an interview.

Well Carlyle is a long ways from being hired, but if he is the guy you would have to be fairly naïve not to see Burke's influence on that decision. Despite what I am sure would be BT's public statements to the contrary.

Anyway he is not hired yet. I wonder how many other NHL head coaching jobs Carlyle has interviewed for? Has he ever been linked to any since leaving TO? I can't think of any so its interesting in itself that Flames are talking to him.

Burke hired him 4 years ago and it didn't work out all that well.

More importantly, Burke is not the GM. If he wanted to be the GM he could be. But he didn't, he hired Treliving.

Treliving will choose his coach.

This is such a tired trope. Do not forget that Burke hired Treliving because he thinks similarly to Burke. It could very well be Treliving's independent decision that is also in line with Burke's thinking.

Oh, and OF COURSE it's Burke's team. He's the friggin' President of Hockey Ops.

As FlamesNation pointed out, you absolutely would have to be naive to the point that Burke at the very least didn't say to Treliving you can't consider this guy. So to that point, you can very safely conclude that Burke is comfortable with Treliving hiring Carlyle should Treliving go through his process and decide he's the guy. That I will 100% agree with. If Burke's previous experience with Carlyle had made him decide he wouldn't approve a Carlyle hire, then he'd stop Treliving from wasting his time and Carlyle's.

Anything beyond that, such as statements about this must be Burke's team if we go with Carlyle, or Treliving got pushed in that direction, completely baseless and does not require you to be naive to not see it that way.

I think they're just covering all their bases with the interview. I just can't see them bringing in Carlyle. What would be the point of firing Hartley just to bring him in? They're similar type coaches.

Just because Carlyle has asked his media contacts in Toronto to keep his name circulating doesn't mean the Flames are hiring him or that Burke has wrestled back control from Treliving.

The only info we have to go on is that Carlyle is interviewing for the position today and has worked for the POHO twice in the past. Anyone can spin what they want, those are the facts and your spin didn't alleviate any of my concerns

You win a Stanley Cup with the President of Hockey Operations, it likely earns you an interview when a job opportunity pops up. I actually doubt they just put Carlyle through the motions just because of that, so I'm guessing he's at least being considered, but we also have heard tones about how Treliving will look under any rock and make sure he dots his I and crosses his Ts.

For now, we should likely not jump to any conclusions other than Carlyle's connections with Burke earned him an interview (or maybe the fact that he's won a Stanley Cup as a head coach in the last decade did) and Treliving is going to have a very complete process.

Until we hire somebody, we haven't. No need to panic.

Treliving didn't fire Hartley to rush and pick up Carlyle.
