Really? They have him 5 years to rebuild the team, but 4 years later they were worse than when they started despite being a cap team. I'm not a Burke hate and think he's done some good here, but let's call a spade a spade. He was awful in Toronto
I am of the belief that MLSE pushed Burke to make the Leafs competitive sooner rather than later and didn't have the patience for a 5 year rebuild. When you look at his trades in Toronto, outside of Kessel he did very well.

Gelinas, Pringle and Sigalet were all retained but were their roles ever defined? I think there could be a shuffle there as well, someone might end up at the farm as well.
Like Bingo said, it could be a 1st time coach with veteran assistants or I think it could go the other way as well with veteran like Sutter and assistants like Green etc.
Teams often just fire the head coach, in this case Cloutier got the boot as well because he is Hartley's sidekick. The rest will be decided when a new coach is hired.
You can't go wrong with an 80's Jets player as coach:
Carlyle: 20 years coaching resume. One Stanley Cup, led ANaheim and Toronto to their best records in years
MacLean: Coach of the Year for Senators, and did well as an Assistant with the Ducks.
Hawerchuk: Has taken a bottom dwelling Barrie Colts team, and nearly led them to the OHL Championship, and perennial contender. Has recently been sought after by NHL clubs.

I wouldn't mind taking a chance on Dale as his style is up-tempo and offensively exciting but this statement is wrong.
Under Marty Williamson the Colts were the best OHL team with a 59-7 record that lost in the finals the season before Dale took over, the next year under Dale they had a record of 15-49 and missed the dance. The only time the Colts were bottom dwellers were under Hawerchuk as Williamson's teams never missed the playoffs.
And Dale only got the job because Marty was offered a long term duel role in Niagara.

I very much doubt Burke came in and was being told what to do by MLSE. He was big hype when he first came here and I would think they would have given him a lot of control.
Just look at his moves and he doesn't seem like a guy who was patient for a rebuild.
His first offseason with the club in 2009 he signs Komisarek (huge bust) and Beauchmin (played like crap). If you are planning a rebuild why go sign two sought after defencemen. And trades for Kessel giving up...well, we all know what he gave up
This is first offseason with the club! Just got here! Those moves alone make it clear he was not intending on a rebuild.
Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. I found the speech pretty uninspiring. Inserting more swears does not make it more compelling. It was embarrassing more than anything to me.
I think I'd be more inspired by D. Sutter coming in and saying, "@#%@ing disappointing boys" scowling, looking around, then shaking his head a few times and then walking out. Less is more sometimes. That would have my cheeks burning. Of course I respect and fear Sutter more than I do Boudreau I guess.
I think this video is an example of why the Flames want a coach with presence and why Boudreau just doesn't have the imposing presence that a D. Sutter has or a Pat Quinn had.

Hawerchuk missed the playoffs his first year, but that was mainly because Williamson traded away everyone to try to win the championship the year before (including acquiring TJ Brodie).
Not sure if it happens in the WHL but seems to happen every once in a while in the OHL once a successful coach knows he's leaving he goes crazy trading away everything in the pipeline to win in his last year.
Damn. That's exactly the kind of talk I was hoping Bob was giving the group during a lot of intermissions in November/December.
Talk about sending a message though.
I remember watching this and marvelling at the players keeping a straight face through it all. It's not quite as bad as I remembered, but it's the sort of weak sauce motivation that leads to a combined 0-8 record in game 6/7 over the last four years.
This clip airs on the same episode as Boudreau's trip to the ice cream store if I recall. Another moment where Boudreau comes off as a clown.
