@DarrenDreger 2m2 minutes ago The Flames are expected to zero in focus on coaching search on Monday. Randy Carlyle will be among those interviewed.
Still no reason to believe Carlyle is linked for any reason other than Burke

I am absolutely terrified that Burke and Carlyle will lead our Flames down the same destructive path they lead the Leafs down...

Sutter was right when he said he was the best coaching candidate for the Flames back in 2009 and that is probably the case again right now:

I think if Darryl was the coach in 2009-10 the Flames would have been one of the top teams and wouldn't have collapsed mid-season. Maybe Darryl would have been too preoccupied to gut the team with terrible trades too.

Treliving will not put his reputation on the line with Carlyle. Not at all worried.

It's gonna be Carlyle, isn't it? The one move that would undo all the good that's been done in the past few years, and they're going to make it. Ugh.

It would also prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Treliving is not, and was never, in charge here. The only person who would hire Randy Carlyle is Brian Burke.

Regardless of who Calgary ends up with I would still consider this a major miss.

I agree. I continue to wonder about Darryl Sutter. He seems to check a lot of boxes of what Treliving and co want in a coach. How come we haven't really heard his name much out of the available coaches?

People probably assume he will return to the Kings since the Kings seem to still want him

Probably because a) the Flames haven't really talked to anyone yet and b) that it's a long shot that Darryl Sutter would ever consider employment by the Flames again as he was very upset when the owners fired him the last time.

Dreger is about as reliable as Eklund.

Did Damien Cox just say Marc Crawford was a possible for Calgary!? GTFO.

edit: Just replayed it, they confirmed Crawford interviewed for OTT and stated that he may have "some interest" from Calgary. Also stated Crawford was ok with being an assistant.

Maybe Treliving didn't make this decision, my gut tells me someone likely sped the process up when Bruce Boudreau became available (a knee jerk reaction). Hartley was quoted as saying he was caught off guard as he thought he and Treliving were on the same page. He even talked about the process of the team being ready to compete for the playoffs within the next 2 years.

The question begs, who is really making this decision Burke, or Treliving? This just seems so unTreliving like when you consider he would rather have guys develop on the farm sticking around for the long term. I bet Treliving is the type that would have no problem telling Hartley ahead of time if he was going to actually let him go. This process really puts Treliving in a position to make a mistake or accept whats available and not really hiring the guy he wants.

Where there's smoke, there's fire. I'm pretty sure Randy Carlyle will be the next coach for the Flames

There you go. Carlyle with Crawford as associate coach. Gelinas keeps running special teams.

Gulutzan was listed as a possible from Friedman, stating his previous ties to Treliving. Stated he figured he would get an interview.
