Remember guys there where teams asking about him at the deadline but because of Buttman purposely delaying his appeal teams decided not to make the trade. I think he's going to be traded at the draft.I send him to deadmonton for yakapov but I don't think they do it .yakapov needs to get the hell out of there to get his career going the right way but I think being here might still be to close for him with their media. He needs to go to a place where he can just play hockey.

Source for teams asking about Wideman at the deadline?

Don't think that was reported.

I remember Burke saying it in an interview right after the whole suspension stuff. Said they had teams ask about him, but they weren't trying to move him at the time.

That's great, really hope it's true. Might mean we have a chance of unloading him this summer.

Burke told Leah Hextal in an interview during an intermission that teams were inquiring about Wideman's availability before the suspension, but they had no interest in moving him.

Hmm... Kind of like all the interest in Drew Shore a while ago. I will believe it when I see it.

Would love to see us acquire Troy Brouwer. Can play second line RW minutes, or anywhere in the lineup. Truculent and knows how to win in the playoffs. If we could pry jake allen out of st louis and sign Okposo were contenders IMO

None of those options include salary retention?

Main concern is to get Wideman to agree to a trade to those teams, majority of which look to not be playoff bound next year.

Wideman is in a contract year. You just tell him he's not going to play powerplay ahead of Hamilton and Nakladal and will be on your 3rd pairing. OR do you wanna go to a team where you'll be first unit PP and play in their top 4?

Easy choice for him to waive IMO.

I don't think it's as easy as burying him in the lineup as he still has the final okay in the end. Other teams concerned about whether Wideman can still contribute in any form will want to see some form of bounceback and keeping him away from ideal opportunities hurts his appeal.

Not so much in regard to value as most fans would agree we'd be happy to gain the cap space as a return, but how many teams would be interested in trading for a potentially washed up defensively liability who cannot contribute offensively without some sort of reassurance.

Honestly he'd end up moving by next trade deadline guaranteed in the interest of both the Flames and him but that's too late if we want to give Nakladal a real shot.

I actually think the best fit for Wideman is in Edmonton.

I don't know if the Oilers could get over themselves to do the trade though.

What i took out of that article was if Flames don't retain 50% of salary they probably won't find a trade partner. The flames don't need a bad contract bottom 6 forward coming back. They already need to get rid of 1 or 2 dead weight bottom 6 guys as is. I really hope they find a trade partner but I'm really starting to think its buyout city for Wideman.
