Lots of talk that LA won't give permission to any team to speak with John Stevens.

Makes sense since Sutter may or may not be back as he needs an extension.

Made it to the 3rd round in one season with the Flyers so falling flat maybe a little harsh.

Personally don' t think he is a bad choice either - do wonder if the Kings may look at promoting him with Sutter's contract expired though.

Highest paid assistant in the league. Sutter's success has a lot to do with JS

I hope you're right. Just seems like Boudreau is the perfect fit.

I'd still love to see the Flames grab Nate Leaman. Real good tactician and preps his team's well. Plays an up tempo system, but makes sure the defensive zone is covered first and foremost. Could be a game changer for the club.

I'm actually okay with anyone they hire as long as they fix they special teams and tighten up the defensive zone coverage. No more Hail Mary passes would be nice too!

I think any one with family ties to a Canadian city has to weight the good with the bad in that situation.

Remember the Eakins story about his daughter getting teased at school?

Sure you may get proximity to grandkids, and lots of Sunday dinners, but if things don't go well you can make life sticky for them too.

I also wonder what he heard about Ottawa from MacLean. Likely wouldn't be enough good or bad to make his mind up for him but you'd have to think it would be somewhat influential.

Exactly. And as Toonage pointed out, the Paul Maclean connection can't be a good reference. All logic in my mind suggests Ottawa would be an awful choice for him, but whatever. If that's where he wants to be, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Which is good ...

It was exactly the same at the time of Treliving's hire. The Flames are without leaks.

It has been long rumoured that Stevens is going to be Sutter's successor, so this does not surprise me

If grandkids are involved, Bruce Boudreau isn't driving the bus - his wife is. A grandmother's desire to be close to her grandkids trumps any mere hockey or career considerations.

They did the same with Mike Futa couple years back when the Flames were looking for their GM. Made him VP of hockey operations and gave him a high salary.

Stevens is likely getting paid like a head coach and is supposed to replace Sutter when he leaves. Could be now.
