50/50 more than $16k here in St Louis. #FortMcMurray
That's awesome. Please note that 50/50s pretty much everywhere else other than western Canada are pretty small.

Default Video: Man watches Fort McMurray home burn on security cam

Video is in link below.

Quote:
When thousands fled the flames in Fort McMurray Tuesday most wondered if they’d ever see their homes again.
James O’Reilly didn’t have to wonder—he watched his home of almost 20 years burn to the ground on his iphone.

At the beginning the only thing out of the ordinary is the intense crackling. Then, the south-facing window goes dark. Only minutes after the video begins the window shatters and plumes of ashy smoke pour into the room.
The smoke eventually blocks out the light, and you’re left again with just sound—popping and breaking, until the video cuts out.

Stupid question.. I donated to RedCross via text, my iphone automatically put a "-" after the 303 so it ended up being sent to 303-33, would that have went through?

Ya nevermind, it simply went out of sight for a while and got closer

I think this "picture" is auto updating with the camera actually:

$100 bucks here. Only posting so people can see a tally.

Don't care if all you can afford is $10 or $10000, it makes a difference regardless.

Go CP!

If anyone feels inclined to donate food stuffs the Food Bank in Edmonton (and I am sure other centres throughout the province) will be aiding out refugees a lot over the coming months and will need anything that can be given.

I will be making a contribution tomorrow to the red cross after taking up a collection from the guys at work.

I have highlighted the Hangingstone Facility to the SW in green. The yellow line is 30km from the most recent detection, though the article says it is only 5km away. It must have moved very fast or there was a new ignition in the past few hours.
Spoiler!

That would be horrible being evacuated to "safety" there and then having to move again...
I think you hilighted the Jacos hangingstone project. Athabasca's is further to the north.

I did $30 yesterday, all I can do at the moment.

Been reading that the police are not allowing anyone to go into buildings to rescue pets, 3 days without food or water for those who survived the fire. I know there are some dedicated people who work for animal rescue groups who are agonizing over this right now, let them in. I'm going nuts thinking about this.

That's what I thought as well. Also, an unimportant aside, but - why two hangingstone projects? Why?

Does anyone know what the water treatment plant camera is looking at? Is it the MacDonald Island area or downtown? The fire looks like it's getting bigger on the camera, anyways.

Add another $50 to the total.

(It was going to be 25, but then I realized that with the exchange rate, my money goes a little farther, so I was able to stretch a little more than expected.)

Watching this thread has been amazing. While my country seems like such an absolute disaster right now--it's absolutely incredible to see the way Canada is banding together to help. And this community on its own is one hell of a display of what people are really like, no matter our differences.

Its looking towards Macdonald island.

At first reddit thought the flames were on the other side of Clearwater River due the the elevation, now they are wondering if the flames are on the island.

A bit pedantic but there are no refugees here, evacuees undeniably, but a refugee is something completely different.

The twitterverse is saying Gregoire Estates and Anzac are sustaining significant damage. I hope the rumours are not true. There has been significantly more silence than usual from the RMWB twitter over the past few hours, which sort of seems like a bad sign. But that twitter operator could also just be exhausted and taking a break.

Best friend finally called me, after going up to Ft. Mac (he's a firefighter). He said it looks like the apocalypse in there. He's finally just getting a shower and been up for 42 hours straight. I guess they found a camp instead of sleeping in chairs in the rec center. Those firefighters and police officers deserve a lot of kudos for what they're doing up there right now.
