Kruger was the best Oilers coach they've had in while. I can see him as a dark horse.

That isn't really saying a whole lot.

Renaud Lavoie: You can expect Randy Carlyle to be one of the candidates for the Calgary Flames vacant head coaching position.

What are the thoughts on a read only thread for a place for strictly news?
People can go to one of the other threads to discuss?
The comments in this thread are valid and apply to the topic, it's not a derail, but perhaps it's a concept that CP could adopt.
I would love a dedicated Sureloss thread for league news where people can't polute the thread with 20 pages of random BS between his updates.
This thread would serve as a good example of how it could be a solution.

One question is where would Boudreau like to coach next?
If his choice is between Calgary, Ottawa and Minnesota - I would think Calgary has some strong appeal.
It is a Canadian hockey market, and Boudreau has never coached a Canadian NHL team before. That might hold more appeal than Minnesota.
The Flames ownership group and senior management is more stable than Ottawa. Eugene Melnyk is a bit of a wild card and with Bryan Murray having stepped down, Dorion is also new in his GM role.
Whereas the Flames with Murray Edwards et al as owners, King, Burkie and Treliving as senior management - would have to be considered a more stable environment.
Boudreau now knows the Western Conference very well and may prefer another coaching opportunity in the Western Conference in general and the Pacific Division in particular. He would also have the opportunity to stick it to Anaheim more often.
It is also easy to show that the Flames are building a young talented core that is on the verge of being serious contenders in the Pacific.
I like the Flames odds of competing with the Wild and the Sens for the services of Boudreau. Time will tell.

Seriously??? If you can't comment on news and rumours what's the point. Just lock the thread and update your original post. Or get a life, that might work too.

If I'm Boudreau, the only thing preventing me from signing in Calgary is understanding what the plan is to address goaltending.

While being the 4th runner up in the ugliness contest isn't a great prize, I suppose it's possible a random hottie ended up in the competition somehow.

We've done this in the past with trade deadlines, etc. There are a lot of people who just want to pop in and see what the latest news and rumors are, and have no interest in reading anyone's commentary. Never mind the 6 pages of fighting for every 2 pages of news...
I didn't realize that was the intent of this thread. If it is, I'll stop posting in it now so we can get it back on track.

Eklind chiming in saying flames and Boudreau have had multiple discussions. Boudreau wants assurances the Flsmes fix the goaltending and then links MAF to our team. Eklund saying if we can get a goalie Bruce wants to come here

Oh Eklund. That's like a girl refusing to give you her number after you take a bullet for her unless you agree to fix the bullet wound.

What is Treliving going to say... "No Bruce, we don't want to fix our horrible goaltending. We like terrible goaltending".
If all Boudreau wants is assurances, then he is going to get them and might as well just sign now. If he wants to see something in place first, he will likely be waiting until after July 1 or at least the draft. He will get offers before then and if he doesn't take them, they will probably be off the table by the time we fix the goalie situation (which itself will take a small miracle).

What an odd analogy. Speaking from personal experience?

I'd think so as well.
Pros & Cons:
Calgary
Pros: Good Young Core, willingness to spend $$ and be a cap team, Western Conference (and Pacific division) familiarity
Cons: High Pressure Market, Not as immediately competitive as you'd like
Minnesota
Pros: Playoff team, willingness to spend $$ and be a cap team, Western Conference familiarity
Cons: Bubble team, little in the way of true impact talent, in the toughest division in Hockey, immediate expectations
Ottawa
Pros: Close to family, better travel schedule.
Cons: High Pressure Market, bubble team (didn't make playoffs), operates on an internal budget, would involve moving to the other conference.
I think ultimately it's "money talks" and whomever ponies up the most will get him.

Mods, feel free to PM me if you want to know the source of the information.
Yesterday I ran into a former NHLer with strong ties to Calgary and the organization (no not Rhett Warrener).
He strongly believes that Randy Carlyle will be the next coach of the Flames. He indicated that during the player meetings, Monahan and Gaudreau were the two biggest advocates of getting Hartley fired. As many have said here, the players were getting tired with Bob and wanted a change.
Also, apparently the Flames had already decided to fire Hartley 10 days prior to the news breaking on Tuesday, hence the Boudreau rumors.
He was super nice and a great guy to chat with.
I'm sure Carlyle is a strong possibility but I hope in the end, the Flames can get Boudreau. We'll see what happens.
