Apparently the Americans think the wildfire is "fueled" by global warming? I didn't know global warming was a fuel. Huh.

He failed miserably at Federal and Provincial levels. Maybe even Municipal but I'm not 100% certain on that part.

He is in deep trouble at his place of work. His place of employment has issued a press release regarding negative comments made by an employee's private account not reflecting the place he works with or the people he works with.

He also is on the board of a public entity in Lethbridge who has issued a statement distancing themselves from his comments.

Can't find either one. Was it on FB or an actual press release?

The Lethbridge Public Library Twitter feed has a link to the official statement of the organization.

Found it.

Looks like Town of Taber has a similar post up now.

Next up: Lethbridge Fish and Game where he is a range officer (for now)

Not sure what you're getting at here. It's been pretty common knowledge for a while now that increased global temperatures are significant factor in the increasing number of forest fires.

The point I am getting at is that the level of sociopathic schadenfreude some people are expressing - and that NDP tool is hardly the only one - is more likely to make people stop listening.

I didn't see the tweet in question so I can't really comment on the content, but what you're arguing kind of begs the question of whether said people were willing to listen in the first place. I think we're pretty well at the point where most people who accept climate change are pretty well aware of the consequences of it and the people who don't have demonstrated that they're not really interested in paying attention to any evidence or expert analysis on the matter (not saying that's what the NDP dude was doing).

Considering the circumstances, that's a pretty grim assessment of our situation. It can't be a rush to judgement if the predictions that have been made for decades are coming true.

Also, the boy who cried wolf was lying, until right at the end. That story and its message don't really fit.

Although I do agree that most people don't care.

oh seriously we are upset about... what???

everyone is allowed to have opinions -- even if they are different from our own value. Why are we wasting time on a "lone wolf"? (do we not have better things to do?)

seriously.... What is upsetting?

Would even we respond if it was a disturbed Xtian telling us the fire was "gods will" for LGBT policies?

in a free speech society.. everyone has the right to their own... even weird... opinion.

You don't have to waste your time trying to correct anyone with a different view of the world.

Um, yes, we would. In fact, with respect to just such a person, Hitchens put it rather eloquently.

Seriously? I may disagree with just about anything Fred Henry says, but he, as well as Catholics in general, aren't known for attributing natural or man made disasters to unrelated societal movements. That's Westboro Baptist Church and Pat Robertson territory.

Go to the Guardian site and read the comments from readers in the article on the fire. It's funny how many people have adopted global warming as a kind of religion.

Looking for a simple explanation for powerful events or phenomena: check

Creating a narrative with malign agents: check

Warning about apocalypse while getting satisfaction at the prospects of a fallen world getting its just deserts: check

Relying on a dogmatic model of cause and effect to avoid facing our vulnerability to a terrifyingly indifferent natural world: check

I'd say we've reached the stage where it stopped being a scientific issue that people assess based on evidence and rational analysis, and become just another ideological battleground.

Haven't a lot of scientists quite clearly said that they don't know if it is global warming, but they know for sure that it is El Nino.

He's sorry that you interpreted that as an attack on the people of Fort Mac. The typical "not an apology, apology" or that "I'm sorry that you're offended" double down.

Complete twit, he can keep his apology since it really means nothing.

Going through his twitter history the guy is a knob.
