Very helpful and eye-opening stuff.
Great sense of timing and appropriateness too.

Our camps at CNRL Horizon have a strict no pets or minors policy. That has been waived due to the fires. There are cats, dogs, lizards and birds in our camps now. We flew out a pregnant lady who was due tomorrow. We also have some new born babies on site at our medical centre.
I am really impressed how the producers have stepped up to help any and everyone in need.
Fuel, Food and water might be a shortage concern because of the fire continuing.

It's hard to describe how I feel about this. Beacon Hill was my old neighbourhood, where I owned my first house. Both my kids went to elementary school in this community. My dog and I encountered a brown bear on the forest paths one summer evening during a run. Hard to get my head around how bad this is. For Calgarians that don't have a reference point, Beacon Hill, I'm gonna spit ball a little bit here, is roughly the same size geographically as North Glenmore with a denser population due to condos and duplexes but it's mostly single family homes. Beacon Hill was created by cutting a loop road into the forest on the southern edge, south west corner of Fort Mac then clear cutting the trees and building residential structures in the middle. The forest, with about a 20 yard +/- grass strip (the width varies) separating it from the road, borders the residential area for about 1/2 of the circumference of the loop road. Obviously to burn that many homes the fire was massive but I'm shocked that 80% are gone. Very sad.

No, translation: Only a sociopath would pick this thread, where people are struggling with displaced families and getting updates on the ongoing situation, to ring the climate change bell.
For those who agree with you, stupid way to bring it up, make a climate change thread.
For those that don't, great method of trying to convince them.

Well, the expected e-mail came. I have volunteered to go to Fort McMurray to handle claims for all of the poor people that have lost or have damage to their homes and businesses.
I may be from Ontario, but was born in Fort McMurray and raised in Calgary. Either way, I am always willing to help people in need. I was there in Calgary, as I have been in Goderich, Thunder Bay and other smaller scale disasters as well.

Wildfires happen all the time, people linking this to climate change are the same agenda driven idiots who tell us weather and climate change aren't the same when its unseasonably cold out. Always cherry picking events to fit a narrative.

I don't understand why you think THIS wildfire is the one that is the culmination of all climate change.
California burned hard in the last couple years. Slave Lake burned. Ontario burned in 1922. London burned down several times over the course of history.
Fires are no joke, and are completely unpredictable. Here's one in Phoenix that killed 19 firefighters. They are devastating in the right conditions, and really we are at its mercy.
Yet THIS wildfire is the one that is because of climate change. You're no better than Leonardo Dicaprio thinking a chinook = climate change.

It's not like I don't have family and friends working in Fort mac as well. My best friend was evacuated. I stick by what I said. Wrong place to say it, maybe. I just felt like someone had to.

You'd think the RCAF could start loading up some Hercs or C-17's and get those goods into your camp. Isn't there a strip near Horizon?
