I mentioned this in the black & blue thread, but Dale Weise may be someone our management targets this summer. He plays physical and can score the odd goal and despite his Canuck past, he isn't a rat.

No room on this team for another bottom 6 forward on the roster especially at UFA price and Stockton has a bunch of bottom 6 skill players in waiting.

I wonder if the Flames will join the Kings and likely Canucks and Oilers in pursuit of Lucic? Perhaps they look at Ladd or Backes?

I'm sure they'll look at backes, but I think ladd will be way too expensive, and he'll be looking for significant term.

I don't think any of the D-men in the draft are NHL ready, even Oilers ready. Don't believe any D-man is worthy of a top 5 pick. I'm also not sold that Chychrun is the best D man on the list. Even if Arizona did take him, there are a couple of other Dmen that could go right after him.

hasn't stopped them before and it edpends if they consider Backlund, Frolik & Colborne top 6 players, if they do there is a hole on the 3rd line RW

I would hope they pass on all of those players as they are expensive, quick fix signings that will hurt the team on the back half of the deals. Free agency simply isn't a place to look to build your team.

I agree, but i thought i read an article a couple of weeks ago and the flames GM said something to the effect that they would be also looking at some small moves like adding a 4th line player.

They may be following this "new" black and blue model but I don't think we need black and blue grinders, I think we need bigger/stronger skilled top 6 players which aren't easy to get.

I could see the Flames pursuing Matt Martin in free agency. That's a black and blue player if there ever was one.
Of course, like EE says, that just puts more money into our bottom six which isn't palatable with both Bouma and Stajan there already eating up almost $5.5 million.
A 4th line of Martin-Bouma-Hathaway or Martin-Grant-Hathaway would be great though.

What about Andrew Shaw for the top line RW? He has shown he can keep up with top players (played with Kane and Toews at times this year). Probably maxes out as a 20G-20A player, but tough as nails, great in the corners and will create space for Johnny. He is undersized, but a pest and plays like he is 6'3/215.
He will likely command $3-3.5M as an RFA. He is 23 (perfect age for our team), has proven to be a champion playoff performer. No idea what it would take to get him...probably a 2nd and Wotherspoon/Kulak. Maybe include Bouma somehow?
In my opinion, it is better for us to chase someone like him rather than one of the big fish which will cost an arm and a leg (Lucic, Okposo, Eriksson).
Johnny - Monahan - Shaw
Shinkaruk - Bennett - Tkachuk
Colborne - Backlund - Frolik
Ferland - Stajan - Hathaway
Bollig - Grant

I just hope we don't see more moves like Bollig to try and become "black and blue"

We still really need to look at Okposo.

I really do not think Lucic makes it to free agency

I think the Kings will do everything they can to keep him, but they have CAP issues. Lucic will have to take a discount, IMO but it seems like he would be willing to do so.

While it seems unlikely Columbus would be willing to move #3, they seem like the only one of the top 3 in this draft that might consider it.
That said, what kind of realistic offer could we make to them that might peak their interest for the 3rd overall pick? It's nice to day-dream about the thought of Jesse Puljujarvi on our roster.
Obviously starts with our pick #6...

I would go as far as offer up #6 and the 2017 1st for Puljujarvi. Not a doubt in my mind he's worth 2 1st round picks because of what he is.
