Obama was quite good, yeah. Wilmore absolutely bombed though. Uncomfortable to watch.

I wonder if Obama writes any of his own jokes? And I wonder if he gets any famous comedians to help him out? Either way his delivery is awesome.
Even when Bush did it he always had some good lines. I'd be absolutely shocked if there aren't writers for these things, last thing the President needs is to bomb an event like this. Carefully scripted for sure.

Talking heads on CNN are extolling the virtues of a North American Union. 49th parallel is an illusion, trade connects us so may as well throw our sovereignty away ect ect.
Not a chance.

But seated a few feet away in the audience, Obama's speechwriters were far more tense.
The president had the last word that evening, so their responsibilities throughout the night included scratching funny lines that other speakers used first. The assignment made for a roller-coaster dinner of frantic updates, edits and revisions to Obama's remarks.
In the realm of presidential speechwriting, comedy routines like the one Obama will deliver at the annual White House Correspondents Assn. dinner Saturday don't share the same import as a major policy address. But for those involved, the challenge of making sure the president comes off as funny is fraught with peril.

About two weeks ago, he started curating suggestions from current and former aides, including longtime Obama advisor David Axelrod and speechwriters Jon Favreau and Jon Lovett. In recent years, writers from "Saturday Night Live" and "The Daily Show" as well as Judd Apatow and Stephen Colbert themselves have sent in lines.

Yeah saw that, the guy presenting it was talking railways, pipelines and power connects the 3 countries and you can't take it away. what he left out was there's virtually none of these connecting the U.S to Mexico.
Of course Zakaria wouldn't say a peep about Mexico's slave/cheap labor that's taking away USA and Canada's jobs.
Favourite story from the podcast is when they're talking about waiting outside the Oval Office and stressing about the speech as Obama's on the phone with "some General" and then they find out a few weeks later he was on the phone giving the Go for the mission to kill Bin Laden.

This is amazing. I think the best part is when Cruz makes a joke-fake-confession and no one laughs so it sounds like a real confession.
HILARIOUS.
