No it was free to get in on friday. It was really strange actually, my friends and I just walked up to the bouncer said "hey", he didn't ask for IDs and we just walked right in without being asked to pay cover. Saturday was a different story though, we waited in line for about 20 minutes then decided to go somewhere else instead. The bouncers seem nice though, they came up to our group specifically and apologized for the wait and told us they would get us in ASAP. I don't know if they were charging cover saturday, but to me it looked like everyone was getting in free.
As for drink prices, yes it was cheap. I ordered 3 jaggerbombs and 3 heinekens and it came out to $41, which is about $5 to $10 cheaper than most places.

I haven't lived in Calgary since summer '04, is the downtown Ceili's roof patio still there? I think one of my buddies told me it wasn't anymore. That'd suck if its gone, I loved that patio, best spot with the downtown view. I friggin helped paint that place in '02.

Brutal. Wow its amazing how much that city changes when you're only there a couple times a year. I grew up in Canyon Meadows around Anderson and even worked at Southcentre for a bit when I was a teenager, and the last time I was in town I couldn't even figure out at first how to get into the mall because of that new turn-off they built. I gotta move back...

One thing that hasn't changed much is the fact that Chinook Centre is still under construction....

there's no cover charge. I was spinning the tunes on Saturday night and it was insanely busy. The main bar was 5 deep almost all night and i agree, they were slow but again, it's opening weekend and no practice nights can prep you for that kind of busy. Frik they had the kitchen staff bussing behind the bar.
I'm sure they will get it together pretty soon though.

Bumping this because it's for sure patio weather today. Who holds the championship belt right now?
Any suggestions for a really good patio down south?

The old West Rooftop patio which is now National is still awesome.
One of my favorites is the rooftop at Broken city, not many people know about it, nor does it get massive street traffic so its fairly easy to get a spot up there.

Au contraire, mon ami. They have a summer patio on the sidewalk since last year.
I should also recommend Container Bar. They will play your vinyl if you bring some.
Naked Leaf has a nice patio too.

I'll toss in a vote for lot 102, they have great food and an awesome patio.

Well that's just a patio on the side of the street though. And container bar is nestled in between two buildings. If you want that type of enclosed patio, I'd say you should be going to Bonterra over either of those:
... But I don't know why you'd take an enclosed patio or a few tables on the street over something with a river view like Julios or even lot 102 as mentioned. And I'm assuming there must be better spots than those.
