Not a horrible result, but not going to drink myself into a celebratory stupor either...
I think one dman will go for either edm or Van... So we could be in line for a tkachuk or dubois
Any chance we use the 6th pick in a package for Druoin? If he still wants a trade out of TB?

If this were a result in Bingo's simulator I'd give it a 6. The Flames only dropped back one spot and the Oilers and 'Nucks drop back TWO each and miss out on the top 3. I am actually unbelievably relieved and happy. And we all know how well #6 overall worked out for us before.
Mark me down as a pretty happy camper.

I wonder if the flames trade the pick for immediate RW help.

They get another high end Finnish winger. Remind you of the Selanne days?
Good for the Jets though. Their young player base I'd going to be off the charts with Laine in the mix.

I am fine with the results. Of course, like everyone else, I was hoping to beat the odds and get into that top 3, but 4-8 is probably all the same tier anyway.
The Leafs are irrelevant to me. Yeah, sure the Toronto-centric media will be annoying, but I pretty much ignore all media these day outside of things directly related to the Flames.
The big thing for me is that Edmonton and Vancouver didn't win. Sucks that Winnipeg will get Laine, but they are the lesser evil.

I think there's a good chance the Canucks trade down if Dubois isn't at 5, if he's there they take him
so the hope is Edmonton takes a D, or doesn't trade for someone who wants Dubois

This year they will take a dman 100%. The years they had the 4 numerous 1 picks and the 3rd overall they would have been foolish (at the time) to take a dman. This year is much different.

I dont know where ppl are getting this notion that the Canucks will draft a defenceman. They signed Troy Stetcher and with the emergence of Hutton and Tryamkin there's no desperate need to draft a defenceman at 5th.
I think they will pick Tkatchuk at 5th.

I'm scared that we'll be stuck in mediocrity. I think this was the last year that we will "suck", and really was our last attempt at a bonafide superstar. Like 65 points at 18 years old type of superstar.
|
Seems a bit extreme to me. The Flames have a really solid group of prospects who aren't even their primes with two guys already in the Top 20 in scoring in their 2nd and 3rd seasons. There's also Bennett who hasn't even come close to his potential yet outscored Monahan in their first full seasons. Good NHL dmen in Brodie, Hamilton and Giordano with Kylington and others coming up. Exciting kids upfront in Jankowski and Mangiapane with this year's number 6... hardly deserving of a mediocre outlook in my opinion.

If Vancouver wants D as well, do the Oilers trade down and risk losing their first choice?

getting another straight up killer really would have been nice. I agree with Regorium, this is likely the last time we're going to have a legitimate chance at it for quite a while

Most of those players had career years and we weren't even close to making the playoffs.

The Oilers need a D now!!...they need to be getting a developed D through trade, and then they'd take BPA with pick #4, unless it's used in the trade, of course.
|
That would actually the smartest move the Oilers will make by drafting D Chychrun and trade Eberle or Nugent-Hopkins with Nail Yakupov and get a stud defenseman. Chychrun might be ready to step in the NHL slowly playing as a 3rd pairing defensemen. Eberle and Yakupov will definitely be gone and maybe Hopkins as well. s for Vancouver they might pick a D as well or one of Tkachuk or Dubois. Heck Vancouver will maybe be entice to add another Swede(Nylander) to play with the Sedins before they leave the NHL.

Canucks need everything so i kind of agree with you that its not automatic they go D. Even if they go D they will probably trade down to get one.

The Edmonton Oilers were one number off winning again. Oilers owned 5-6-8-14 combo.
