I added a poll.
Was curious who people thought should win, not who they think will win.
If you had a vote, who would you give it to?

I think Burns numbers are more impressive than Karlssons and the Norris has never gone to a player that didn't make the playoffs.
Doughty/Burns
Karlsson

I really like Burns this year. He's worked on his defensive play and he's no longer a liability in his own end as he's competent. 27 goal defensemen are a rarity in today's NHL and if you watched a lot of sharks games he was dominant. IMO his season was more special than Doughty's or Karlsson's. Doughty is a close second as he had a very solid season but Burns was more prolific offensively and just as dominant in games.

Doughty is my favorite defenseman but I won't be bothered if Burns wins it, he's been damn good in every zone this year and I remember just last year Johnny was making a fool out of him.
I'll be very disappointed if Karlsson gets the award, he is a joke defensively.

I meant to vote Karlsson. The arguments have been played out but I really think Karlsson deserves it this year.

Kinda shocked to see Karlsson at 1 vote.
Not a big fan of his defensively, but he can really stir the drink offensively.
All 3 deserving candidates, imo. No bad picks.

If I was picking a team, say Team Canada, I don't know if Karlsson or Burns would make the team. Doughty would for sure.

I know this has been done to death every year since Karlsson and Doughty both started earning Norris consideration, but if you were comparing Doughty and Karlsson defensively, Doughty wins hands down. Obviously Karlsson is in a tier almost by himself when it comes to offence, but when you compare how both play, I think Doughty always comes out ahead.
I wish the NHL would bring out an award for the top scoring defenceman. We have 2 scoring and 1 overall awards for forwards, why not have 1 offence and 1 overall award for defencemen? That way we wouldn't see deserving guys passed over for the award.

I'm surprised people actually think Doughty isn't going to win. He's totally going to win. The Norris Trophy for Lifetime Achievement.

Yep. If it was up to me I'd rename the Hart after Bobby Orr. What a hockey player.

Scary to think that Doughty is only 26 years old and was arguably Canada's best player in the last Olympics.

Like the Leo Oscar....he should already have one, maybe not best deserved THIS year, but damnit, he's earned it.

Doughty should get it but most likely won't.
Also, while I don't agree with the premise of the following blog, interesting to see how well Gio stacks up against the three nominees:

Team Canada was used as an example. What I'm saying is Karlsson wouldn't make my team Canada if he was eligible.

The fact that both Doughty and Burns are nominees for the Norris might be hurting them. The majority of their votes are probably coming from the west, as they are the ones who actually watch these guys play on a regular basis. Some of the western voters might favour Doughty, while others favour Burns. They might be nulling each others' votes by having this split. In the east, I can see the majority of voters choosing Karlsson with much more unanimity.
From a points-only basis, Burns did a great job closing the gap between him and Karlsson. Karlsson is not dominating the points criteria by any means, and that might cause him to get fewer votes for his "historic" offensive season.
It will be interesting to see how things play out.
