I actually want it to go 1. Edmonton 2. Calgary 3. Anyone but Vancouver because you know the Oilers will screw it up and still suck and the Canucks don't deserve anything good for a while due to Burrows, Kesler, etc...

I want a top 3, partially so we don't have to guess for two more bloody months.
Flames have a recent history of getting the last pick of a pretty clear a top tier - Monahan at 6 in 2013, and Bennett at 4 in 2014. So we're gonna get Puljujarvi at 3.

I haven't thought of that - if we get a lottery pick we will essentially know who we are drafting and all talk will focus on one player. If we don't then the jury Is out and it's more of the same for a couple months.

I like your thinking.

However I'm not sure Monahan was at the bottom of a clearcut top 6 tier. Ristolainen looks like a #1 d-man and unfortunately I think Nurse can be a #2/3 as well. So that top tier was at least 8 players deep. Some would have included Nichushkin in the top tier as well so maybe 9? Or maybe we should say the top tier was actually Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin and Barkov followed by a very strong secondary tier that wasn't far behind the top tier.

2013 is actually very similar to this year IMO in its depth and tier set up.

2013 top tier of Jones, MacKinnon, Barkov, Drouin
2016 top tier of Matthews, Laine, Puljujarvi

2013 secondary tier of Lindholm, Monahan, Nurse, Ristolainen, Horvat, Nichushkin, Morrisey, Wennberg, Domi, Zadorov, Morin, Wennberg
2016 secondary tier of Tkachuk, Dubois, Juolevi, Chychrun, Sergachev, Brown, Nylander, Fabbro, Jost, Keller, McAvoy, Bean

2013 at the time, definitely had some tiers:
 1) MacKinnon, Jones, Drouin, Barkov
 2) Lindholm, Monahan
 3) Nurse, Ristolainen, Nichushkin (he was a wildcard) and Shinkaruk for many
then it got cloudier with: Morrissey, Wennberg, Horvat, Domi, Morin, Lazar etc

What I mean is, in 2013 it was pretty obvious we we going to get Lindholm or Monahan, whoever was not picked before us. In 2014 it was obvious we would get the last of Ekblad, Reinhart, Draisaitl, Bennett. Not a lot of guesswork. It wasn't like there was any realistic chance of taking Dal Colle, for instance. In top three I would bet dollars to dimes it'll go Matthews, Laine, Puljujarvi in that order. After that it's all pretty up in the air. At 6 or 7 we could end up with any of probably 5 or 6 players. I'd rather not spend months handwringing.

Yah I know but just imagine, McDavid AND Matthews and they still finish at the bottom for the next 3-4 years before dismantling with both guys eventually either moving on or not meeting expectations?! It would go down in history!

I think Brown could go surprisingly high but as I said I think it'll be to a team with mediocre centre depth who really covets and needs size and skill at centre. The Flames aren't small at centre and already possess strong depth at that position and thus I don't think they'd covet him as much as another team might.
 |
Do the Flames have strong depth at the position, though? I like Bennett, and Monahan, and Jankowski, and Backlund. But can you realistically project any of them as a top ~15 center in the league? I can't (Bennett maybe). So if we have a chance to add another center it's just another bullet in the chamber towards enviable center depth. Our center depth is satisfactory but not enviable unless everything goes right. San Jose's Center Depth (Thornton/Couture/Marleau/Pavelski/Hertl) is enviable. Pittsburgh's Center Depth (Crosby/Malkin/Bonino/Cullen/Fehr) is pretty enviable. Dallas' Center Depth (Spezza/Benn/Seguin/Eakin/Faksa/Fiddler) is looking pretty enviable (even Sharp is a natural center). God damn Edmonton's center depth (McDavid/Matthews/Draisaitl/Nugent-Hopkins) looks like it will be enviable.

if Brown has any kind of top 6 potential, his skillset should not be ignored just because he plays a position we drafted three years in a row. that obviously applies to Matthews and Dubois and Rubtsov too for me. Being a natural winger is almost unneccessary for me.

CBC at 5:00pm. The winners probably won't be shown until closer to 6.

^ on that topic. nhl.com article says 8et which makes no sense as cbc has the pens caps game and sn has the jays. To confirm this is at 7et?

If you go to the TV Listings section on sportsnet.ca, it has "NHL Draft Lottery" on CBC at 5:00pm MT. The schedule on cbc.ca also has "Hockey Central Saturday - Draft Lottery" listed at 5:00pm MT.
NHL.com still says the results will be shown on NBC and CBC at 6:00pm MT. NBC's hockey broadcast starts at 6:00pm MT.

I don't think any of the results will be announced until after NBC signs on at 6. The 5-6 hour will likely be a long, drawn-out waste of everyone's time.

Last year, they started doing the rundown of all the teams after 6, and the winner was revealed at 6:14pm.

My order is 2, 3, 1, 8, 5, 7, 9, 6, followed by Chychrun, Brown, Jost, and then McLeod.

If Gauthier falls to our 2nd, then ok. Otherwise pass.
