Well, that didn't take long.

It had to be done, obviously. But I really don't think he's a bad coach. Kinda mystifying actually that he's cursed in game 7s.

He'll find work soon, I'm sure.

Does he now have a reputation after Washington and Anaheim that he just can't get teams over the hump?

What are the running odds that Ottawa hires him now?

Not sure who's reputation for playoff collapses is worse - Boudreau's or Hitchcock's. At least Hitchcock might bury that reputation a bit this year, and has a past cup to show for it.

Ottawa would be stupid to not make a hard run at him whilst they are the only team in the market for a coach.

Wouldn't it be amazing if he won the Jack Adams? He kind of deserves it. They started the year off with everything going against them, and he changed their entire playing style, and they came back and won the division. There's a strong case to be made there.

Absolutely, Boudreau's 9 seasons in the NHL have ended this way:

2008 WSH: Game 7 home loss to Philadelphia
2009 WSH: Game 7 home loss to Pittsburgh
2010 WSH: Game 7 home loss to Montreal
2011 WSH: Swept by Tampa Bay as the higher seed
2012: Fired midseason by Washington, hired by Anaheim and missed playoffs
2013 ANA: Game 7 home loss to Detroit
2014 ANA: Game 7 home loss to Los Angeles
2015 ANA: Game 7 home loss to Chicago
2016 ANA: Game 7 home loss to Nashville

Minnesota needs a coach too unless they extend Torchetti.

Ottawa is a better fit for him, though.

Trotz deserves it over Boudreau, imo.

I wouldn't be surprised if he won it. I wouldn't be shocked if it was Hakstol either... but seriously, Boudreau actually did a mid-season system change for his squad and it led them from the basement to the penthouse. That's unheard of. Not a lot of coaches would even attempt that. Compare that to what Michel Therrien did (read: didn't do) in Montreal.

Yeah, this screams Boudreau to Sens. They'd be stupid not to give that a shot. Hope they hire the most incompetent nincompoop they can find though.

Doesn't fix anything.

At some point they'll have to face the facts. The window is closing, the core is aging, and the GM is lost.

The Ducks might be a good team but it's looking a lot like a core with Getzlaf/Perry can't get it done.

He's got half a season next year to turn things around. The pressure for him is enormous, a team that didn't do much this year, a new building, a budding franchise player who could become a cap crippler.

If he starts slow by game 20 his skype will be ringing.
