Bergeron, Kesler, and Kopitar are finalists for the Selke
SportsCentre @SportsCentre
JUST IN: Finalists for the Selke Award are Patrice Bergeron (BOS), Ryan Kesler (ANA) and Anze Kopitar (LA).

I'd guess it's between Bergeron and Kopitar. I'll guess Kopitar wins because his team made the playoffs and because he's a really good player that hasn't gotten individual hardware yet.

He had a pretty good season and as much as we hate him he's a solid 2 way Center even this season.
He just had a great playoff series and was probably Anaheims best player.

He is garbage. Make a trophy for diving and he can win that.

He's also a beast in faceoffs. I hate the guy but the nomination isn't that ridiculous. Should be Kopitar or Bergeron that wins though

When a player, a supposed playmaker, has four points - none of them assists - in seven games, either the team is bad or the player isn't the team's best.
I think both of those apply. Kesler was certainly not the Ducks' best player in the playoffs, and he isn't even a better 2-way centre than Sidney Crosby, for example.

Since when has Kesler been a playmaker? Did you just start watching hockey this year? He's never been a playmaker.
And he isn't better than Crosby, one of the best two way players of the last two decades? Um yeah that's not surprising.

So then why isn't Crosby a Selke finalist, then?
Also, FYI - Kesler's had a 25 goal, 50 assist season. This year, he had 11 more assists than goals.

Because Kesler was better than him and so were 2 other guys. Did you forget Crosby pretty much didn't show up for half the season?
And yeah you usually have more assists than goals....what's your point?

How many players have double as many goals as assists in a year?
Also, you didn't answer my first question - if Crosby's such an immensely talented two-way player, why isn't he a Selke finalist over Kesler, then?

I did answer. Go back and read.
NHL goal totals: 223
NHL assist totals: 270
Calling Kesler a playmaker is just so wrong. Gaudreau is a playmaker. Crosby is a playmaker. Backstrom is a playmaker. Kesler is a player who goes to the net and creates his chances that way.

And can't believe I'm defending one of my most hated players in the NHL but even your most hated player you need to be able to admit they're a good hockey player. I don't like Kesler one bit and was thrilled he fanned on that last second shot that could have tied that game.
Having said that he was the best player that game for the Ducks by far and won pretty much every important face off down the stretch. There is a reason he was taking the face offs while Getzlaf was on the wing.

Who cares. He shouldn't be up for the Selke this year and is only there because of reputation. He's an overpaid, and now over rated hockey player.
